About this deal

Lucy, after an uncomfortable breakup, meets Jonah, at a baby christening of all places. The two hit it off and waste no time making their union official. For a while, the newlyweds enjoy wedded bliss and life is good, until Lucy suffers through a couple of miscarriages, and her step-daughter, Camille, comes to stay with them. This story was incredible and I enjoyed the hours I spent getting swept away by this captivating romance. I wished for rainbows and unicorns. I was left in tears. The author did an outstanding job with this book. I love it when a book can make me feel so intensely and I know in my heart that this is one I will read time and time again. The Idea of You managed to work the ultimate book magic: It blurred the boundary between this world and that one' OPRAH MAGAZINE

Ok, I don't want to criticize the book, after all I liked it and I gave it 4 very solid stars, but this could've been a 5 star had the heroine been a little more...relatable. But the whole thing, especially the main character, was very...pretentious. This in turn makes the book, and again the main character, completely unrelatable, especially considering the target audience. I get it she's extremely sophisticated, Ivy League educated, and OMG let's not forget she's French (it's mentioned way too many times), none of that bothers me, but the name dropping and the snobbish writing, was a turn off. I believe that you can completely be sophisticated without sounding pretentious. She sounded like a snob, time and time again, and I rolled my eyes a lot. The name dropping was extreme and not subtle. She definitely didn't need to mention her Celines, and Hermes and Lanvins, etc all the freaking time. ANNE HATHAWAY'S NEW FILM 'THE IDEA OF YOU' IS BASED ON HARRY STYLES FAN FICTION". graziamagazine.com. August 26, 2022. Audiobook: The way the audiobook is narrated gives you an underlying sense of tragedy. It is kind of preparing you (from the very moment you start listening) for the end. I wound't know if this is a good thing or a bad one. Amanda Prowse has received a lot of praise from some of my reviewer contemporaries, so every time I saw one of her books on sale or in the KU library, I’d grab it, but to my knowledge this is the very first book of hers that I’ve read. The sleeper hit of the pandemic ... a glittering, global love affair full of bougie, vicarious travel. It's electric, triumphant, to read Vogue The plot is sexy and full-on. The pace ebbed and flowed, at times it felt so slow, then other times it felt like it was going at warp speed. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the ending. I have mixed feelings about it too, as it felt a little short but then I didn’t see any other way for the book to end. I was never fully sold on the relationship between Solène and Hayes. It was extremely believable and very well written, but the age gap made it difficult for me to be 100% comfortable. Age gap aside, the connection between the characters was electric and profound. As a warning (or a clincher for those that love it), this novel is extremely steamy! A sizzling summer love story that I couldn't put down Lynsey James, author of The Single Dad's Handbook

I understand why this story resonates with so many readers. The struggle with infertility, and the strain it can place on a marriage, coupled with the challenges of a blended family and career pressures, are all real life issues many people can relate to. The slowly developed relationship between Lucy and Camille was a real contrast to the way Lucy and Jonah got together after their whirlwind romance. Bringing Camille into the family dynamics brought an edge that cut through the sentiment, providing a stepmother/stepdaughter relationship with all the difficulties that possibly brings. I loved all the extended family and their dramas, again I found them very true to life, all of them adding to the bigger picture showing that the life Lucy was chasing was far from idealistic. Lucy wasn’t always the most likeable of characters but her emotions and reactions were always absolutely spot on and I empathised with her totally. The reason for the 4.5 and not a full five because there were some plot points that kind of faded out without being resolved. I had expected a bigger blowup with Oliver. I expected a rift would have formed with him because of how he had been hitting on Solène and it would threaten the band. Also the book had no climax. There was no monumental moment of build up and then release. I think something with Oliver would have fulfilled that, with more to do with his weird behavior toward her and less so with the Penelope stuff. When I saw that the new book by one of my favourite authors Amanda Prowse was about motherhood, specifically struggling to become a mother due to miscarriage, I knew this was going to be a very emotional read for me. And then I realised that Amanda’s “book birthday” would be the same day as my daughter’s birthday, my “miracle baby” even though she is now 25, so I knew it was a sign! I HAD to read this book! I had to see how Amanda dealt with the issues raised as, at one point in my life, I WAS Lucy having had several early and one very late miscarriage. Motherhood was a dream for me to chase and I was determined never to give up until I succeeded. When single parent, thirty-nine-year-old Solène Marchand accompanies her young daughter and a few friends to see their favourite pop group, August Moon, in Las Vegas, including a meet and greet with the band, the last thing she expected was to catch the eye of one of the members, nineteen years her junior and for a secret love affair to begin. But I truly hope that by reading The Idea of you it helps people to understand a little more about the emotions and grief people go through and their courage to get up and take small steps every day. Thus in the whole book you have these two people who meet other people who are friends with other people and who live the high life who travel all around the world who make love like they don't care and there is no tomorrow.
