About this deal

After a tour, we sit down in a cheery sitting-room. It is full of trifles unconsidered – at least by others – which she begins by listing. “Paintings by my great aunt, things from boot sales and a flea market in New York. That little embroidery came from a house clearance in Stroud.” It placed administrators from Alvarez & Marsal on standby to undertake an urgent review of the retailer’s strategic options, which announced it was racing to find a new buyer two weeks prior. Cath Kidston Creative Director, Holly Marler, comments:s: “ Working in partnership with DFS during the last year has been a truly magical experience, Home is such as important part of the Cath Kidston brand and our heritage, it has been an absolute pleasure starting the exciting journey reigniting the brand through a new interiors launch. I am so proud to co-create a collection truly unique in pattern and colour, inspiring lovers in furniture and interiors just enhances our ethos of bringing joy through our print design. Potions, herbology, charms and care of magical creatures are all covered, with dozens of tiny details entwined within floral prints in Cath Kidston's usual vintage style. British retailer Cath Kidston, known for its vintage prints and cutesy florals, which was saved from administration earlier this year to become a “brand-first, digital-led” retailer, has reopened its flagship Piccadilly, London store. I am constantly looking around me for drawing inspirations, whether it’s seeing a flower on a walk outside, or a puppy.

Launching online on 7 September, the Cath Kidston collection available exclusively at DFS features a range of upholstered sofas, beds, accent chairs, chaise longues and footstools, each designed to bring a pop of colour and joy into any room. Melinda Paraie, chief executive at Cath Kidston, said of the store opening in a statement: “London is at the heart of our brand and we are thrilled to introduce the newly reimagined 180 Piccadilly to our customers, just in time for Christmas. We are confident that our customers will recognise and love the quality and craft of the products in a highly curated environment, relatable to today’s lifestyle.” Cath Kidston as a business has seen many changes over the years, such as a new chief executive, new print designs, new collaborations, and global expansions.

While beauty may be at the core of Cath Kidston’s product, they’ve got to be entirely functional and useful in the everyday home.” We decided to reopen the London flagship store because London is important to the brand. We have a London print every season. Collaborations are integral to our overall growth strategy in terms of innovating the brand, keeping it fresh, attracting new customers, as I said we do have a very loyal fan base, but naturally we want to keep that fan base growing and attract new and young customers,” she said. Cath Kidston reopened its London flagship store in early December. Marler added that Cath Kidston has also witnessed new trends in response to Covid-19, such as an increase in the sale of homeware products.

After Marler graduated from the prestigious Central St Martins where she studied textile and fashion design, she travelled to Italy to work at fashion brand Jato as an embroidery designer for a year. There, she drew for brands like Gucci. We’re seeing customers become more confident in expressing their personality in their interiors and we hope that this collection will offer pattern lovers as well as Cath Kidston fans the chance to bring their favourite prints to life in any corner of their home. The beauty of this range is that you can be as subtle or as bold as you like - you can introduce pattern with a single statement item such as an accent chair or footstool, or go for the maximalist look by mixing and layering patterns across a number of pieces.” Cath Kidston opened its second store in London’s Chelsea. The retailer published its first design book entitled Vintage Style.

For Holly Marler, her stint at Alexander McQueen in the early days of her career was like a baptism of fire. Not that she’s complaining. If anything, she was grateful for it, especially now as the new creative director at Cath Kidston. If it’s one thing that Cath Kidston is known for other than its unique prints, it’s the frequent collaborations. Past partnerships include an exclusive one with Disney, along with Snoopy, Mr Men Little Miss, and Fearne Cotton. She then returned to the UK to join Alexander McQueen as a print designer in 2006, spending five years working closely with the brand’s creative director Sarah Burton. My role in this transformation plan is to ensure everything is cohesive and curated within the brand’s vision,” Marler told Retail Gazette.Albetta Anton Studio Designs Apollo Housewares Arthouse Unlimited Ashwood Blade & Rose Boella & Sorrisi Burgon & Ball Cath Kidston Coco Pzazz Danielle Creations Dartington Crystal Her most recent role was at luxury department store Liberty where she served as design director for two years, responsible for designing and hand-drawing all the in-store products with the Liberty print, as well as launching a ready-to-wear collection.
