About this deal

I don't want to include spoilers here but I will say this novel took me for an emotional roller coaster ride! It’s a long way round the houses back to reconciliation, and the route can seem frustratingly obstacle-strewn, but Jewell’s easy prose and storytelling ability make for a pleasant enough trip.

She lives in north London with her husband, two teenage daughters, one cat, one guinea pig and the best dog in the world. If you are looking for a looking for a psychological thriller that will unfold secrets and truths in a shocking manner, this book is for you. As they try to find a way back to each other, back to what they once had, they both become momentarily distracted—but maybe it’s not too late to recapture happily ever after.

Did you feel the same or differently about the kiss between Ralph and Rosey during their night of Christian rock music and drinking? I couldn't wait to read After the Party and learn more about these two and I eagerly awaited the release date. In 1974, a troubled Vietnam vet inherits a house from a fallen comrade and moves his family to Alaska. Ralph comes back from California determined to help Jem out more with the kids but Jem is pre-occupied with thoughts of Joel and it appears that Jem and Ralph, instead of becoming closer, are moving further and further apart. So if you've enjoyed Lisa Jewell before, or even if you haven't, you won't be disappointed with this engaging, touching and ultimately jump for joy read.

This sequel revisits familiar, beloved characters and catches up with their lives since the book ended. He’s never confessed his unwillingness to have a second child, and she’s filled with unspoken resentment at his lack of support. It has a very different feel to it – as I mentioned, Lisa’s writing has evolved – and whereas Ralph’s Party featured six main characters (Ralph, Smith, Siobhan, Karl, Jem and Cheri), After The Party was mainly about Jem and Ralph. she says, waving the loaf of Warbutons Malted she took for him from her own kitchen cupboard that very morning. The book begins with a prologue, set in the present year, before being split into multiple parts set mainly in the year that causes Jem and Ralph to think about taking a break from each other until we ourselves come up to the breaking point in Jem and Ralph’s relationship. Ralph still paints pictures in the attic and Jem works part-time as a celebrity agent, but, despite their enduring love, this couple doesn’t talk. Instead, this was a jumble of completely insane and non-issues that deteriorated the relationship of two people. The fact that these two aren’t married, and are partners with children also speaks to how many couples are committed without a legal document these days.
