I wear mine snowshoeing in the mountains in blizzard like conditions and I can always rely upon my HC65! Advanced temperature regulation (ATR) regulates the output of the HC65 V2 according to the working and ambient temperature to maintain optimal performance while preventing the LED from overheating. Frontally, to the right of the primary LED, we find the auxiliary white light LED High CRI (CRI≥90) of 35 lumens.

Turbo mode started at around 1830 lumens and dropped to roughly 1500 lumens in 2 minutes, and at 10 minutes it was at around 680lumens. The warm CRI>90 white light is suitable for short range illumination and resembles the warmth of sunlight, giving a sharp visual whilst reducing eye strain. The rugged unibody aluminium construction provides excellent cooling performance and a sturdy unit that is also lightweight, while the newly designed head band features a curved rubber pad at the back for a comfortable fit to the head and a silicone strip on the inside of the head band to channel away sweat as well as provide a non-slip fit. However, it is just regular hex screws, so accessing the internals of this plate should be fairly straightforward. Keep in mind that the Opple Lightmaster is no laboratory-level spectrometer, but it gives a nice indication.From off you can also instantly access the turbo by pressing and holding the button until it bypasses the memorised mode and enters turbo, or while the light is on turbo can be momentarily accessed for 30 seconds by double pressing the button. And since the Nitecore’s NL1835HP batteries are one of the longer ones, I don’t see any problems with any battery. The high CRI means the beam resembles that of morning sunlight, making colours appear more clearly to the human eye and also reducing eye strain, which makes this mode perfect for night reading.

Tested to ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 standards in laboratory conditions using the included 18650 3500 mAh 8 A lithium-ion battery. Unfortunately my set is missing the one hex that’s the right size for this, so I wasn’t able to take it apart. The Nitecore HC65 V2 is a powerful and compact headlamp equipped with three different light sources.

It is powered by a 3500mAh 18650 Li-ion battery (included) or alternatively by 2 CR123 / RCR123 batteries and is rechargeable via the USB-C connector. At around 20 minutes it settled at roughly 620-630 lumens and ran till it dropped again at the 2 hours and 5 minutes mark, to roughly 40 lumens.The Sofirn ones are very good as a budget one, especially if you get it from China, through their site, but the one complaint I have is their head straps are a bit small if you have a large (size 61) head. On the two sides we find 2 caps; frontally seen on the left we find the USB-C charging port, while on the right is the housing of the 18650 battery included in the sales package.
