About this deal

Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world. The plot itself was intense and harrowing and included quite a few themes, including social media, peer pressure, bullying, and showed what a scary world our children have to grow up in these days. The start is frenetic, the ending too, but the middle is delivered at a quite slower pace which did feel a little clunky.

Sleepovers (book) - Wikipedia

An excellent psychological thriller, great plot and a really evil antagonist keep you page turning until the end. This then enables a sudden fear that Lily (Daisy's disabled 11-year-old sister) would trigger further torment from Chloe. The final twist, when it came, was shocking but I had admittedly anticipated it just prior to its reveal. It was such a cute story about a little girl trying to make friends but worried about what they'll think of her older sister, who has learning difficulties. That was really odd and although I very much understand helicopter mums (I imagine I would be one myself! That small choice turns in to every parents worst nightmare, when the next morning Nick isn't there when she goes to pick him up. At Chloe's party they make pizzas but Chloe sabotages Daisy's pizza by covering it with anchovies which Daisy hates - she then says that they'll make sure Daisy's piece of birthday cake has a special anchovy filling when it comes to cake time, which causes Daisy to decline to eat any. Aside from her fears concerning her sister's disability, Daisy also feels as though she does not fit into her circle of friends completely as she is the only one who does not have a best friend within the group, and on top of that, the bossiest girl in the group, Chloe, is determined to turn the girls against Daisy.

The Best Sleepover in the World (Hardback) - Waterstones

Chloe's party is going to have a swim in a luxury pool, a special makeover for every guest, and a real live meeting with a social media superstar. But the next day when she arrives, all her nightmares have become reality when it is discovered that Nick isn't there. I did enjoy discovering the many secrets in this read and King does throw in a couple of good red herrings to throw the reader off the scent a bit but I wanted something else. Some good red herrings made it difficult to tell who to trust and who not to and there’s a shocking ending.

As already mentioned I suspected pretty much everyone along the way as the story twisted and turned around and about itself as more of the characters' personalities were exposed. I got things wrong so many times, I just gave up trying to piece together the clues and enjoy the book.
