About this deal

This is very useful with skeleton puzzles because you aren't normally given the length of answer words with the clues so will have to work it out for yourself. You should use this information in conjunction with the clues under the grid to help you get started. As such we hope that those of you who are unfamiliar with this puzzle type will enjoy it, if not initially, and fans of the puzzle type enjoy the regular skeleton crossword solving challenges that we will present with the puzzles on this site in our online solving area.

The word 'skeleton' is apt as, unlike a normal crossword, you are just given a few scant details about a grid, and you must then work through to construct the grid AND solve the crossword at the same time. For individuals with comments, questions or ideas with regard to our puzzle books, then please use this Contact Form to drop us a line. To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. The challenge of these puzzles is not just to solve the crossword clues and fill the grid as normal, but to create the very grid itself as you go along. It's worth bearing in mind that the minimum length of an answer is virtually always 3 letters, so if you are creating a grid pattern with 2-letter words you are probably going wrong somewhere.

It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it! This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. All the grids in this book exhibit standard rotational symmetry: this means that if the third square on row one of the grid is shaded black, for instance, then the third square from the end of the final row of the grid is also shaded black, and so forth. Similarly, many crossword variants can be adapted to work with the skeleton principle – it provides an extra ingredient that can make puzzles more interesting, or more challenging, depending on your point of view.

If the solver is able to enter an answer, the answer is likely to provide a clue to further black squares – the square immediately following the last letter of the answer will be black (unless the answer runs to the edge of the grid). Perhaps you have some tips that you'd like to share as to how you tackle these puzzles - if so, then please do share them in the comments, it's always great to hear how solvers tackle different puzzle types. Therefore you can use the information given at the start of each puzzle - some black squares and some numbered squares - to work out where other black squares and white squares must be placed in the grid.If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us. Use our tool to solve regular crosswords, find words with missing letters, solve codeword puzzles or to look up anagrams. At the start of the puzzle you will be given a few scraps of information: a few numbers in the grid corresponding to certain across and down clues, and a few squares too - but the rest is up to you.

We classify Skeleton to be a RARE crossword clue as we have not seen it in many (if any) crossword publications. From a compiler's point of view, a fully symmetrical grid is less interesting than a grid with central symmetry, because it tends to mean more words of a particular word length or, put another way, less variation in word length.I particularly love the variety of having a cryptic or other challenging variations scattered throughout. This page shows answers to the clue Skeleton, followed by ten definitions like “ Consisting of, or resembling, a skeleton”, “ The supportive framework of an animal body” and “ An aggressive mob that spawns in dark places or night”.
