After the Umayyad period, their reputation deteriorated because of their inclination to exaggerate and fantasize, and for relying on the Isra'iliyat. The author uses descriptive language that enables the reader to immerse him or herself into the story. I personally have seen several Muslims who lacked basic knowledge of seerah, aqeedah, and Islam in general who took up these books under the false belief that they were somehow superior because they were unbiased. Reading The Simple Seerah made me want to read and learn more about Islamic history through its characters, I found myself wondering about Abu Bakr RA, and wanting more details about the Rasool.
