I also liked the island setting where this game of cat and mouse unfolds in fact this book worked better as a psychological thriller for me and I think it could have done with loosing a lot of the supernatural psychic mumbo jumbo. The novel opens by introducing the reader to an alcoholic vagrant, resting in an abandoned and forgotten lock-keeper's house by a canal.
