The AVC encoded 1080p high definition presentation is given a healthy bit rate on the 50GB disc and it looks very nice. It’s insightful, offering up some welcome context as to the folkloric origins of the story and an interesting analysis of some of the characters and some of the metaphors and symbolism featured in the movie. In particular, the exteriors near the seaside sound washed out and tinny, but I imagine that’s again due to the materials being used.

The AVC encoded 1080p high definition picture isn’t in perfect shape but it’s certainly more than watchable. She gives him a job as a handyman at a large house owned by her and her two sisters: nymphomaniac redhead Nicole (Leon) and wheelchair-using Yvette (Perschy). While the ideas never quite coalesced for me, there was a valiant attempt to craft Isabelle as a character who challenges social taboos, which I respect.It’s definitely worth a listen as she goes over how the film plays with audience expectations in terms of its horror movie branding, the visuals on display in the movie and much of the set design, thoughts on the different characters that populate the movie, elements of Polish history and society that shaped the movie, literary influences that work their way into the movie and quite a bit more.

I Like Bats is offered with a 24-bit DTS-HD mono track that may even be in better shape than the print used for the film scan, with a healthy balance and even some fun depth in the musical sequences. If you've been reading this blog for a while or have listened to my podcast, you've probably heard me mention "House of Psychotic Women" many times over the years. The presentation quality is strong for each of the four films in the set and the extras offer welcome analysis and context for each of the features.This interview is truly exhaustive, showcasing just how much of a talented workman Storaro started his career as and just continued to grow from there.

House of Psychotic Women is an examination of these characters through a daringly autobiographical lens. Arnold, the movie, details what happens when an elderly, aristocratic rich man named Lord Arnold Dwellyn. Unlike her male counterpart - 'the eccentric' - the female neurotic lives a shamed existence, making these films those rare places where her destructive emotions get to play. Winter, Grady Hendrix, Jack Ketchum, Jack Sargeant, Jasper Sharp, John Skipp, Karen Arthur, Kim Newman, Maitland McDonagh, Mark Jancovich, Mitch Horowitz, Ramsey Campbell, Stephen Thrower and many more.
She was a producer on David Gregory’s Tales of the Uncanny (2020) and wrote, directed and produced the award-winning documentary Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021) for Severin Films, where she is a producer and editor of supplemental features. Cinema is full of neurotic personalities, but few things are more transfixing than a woman losing her mind onscreen. The whole thing has a very free-flow vibe to it, not always concerned with narrative sense or logic but more interested in displaying controversial and taboo busting imagery and strange, surreal tableaus. The first half is a memoir that takes the reader from Janisse's childhood into her thirties with the films that informed her shifting perspective woven in throughout. Today the film is readily available complete and unedited on DVD as The Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll.

S. cut of the movie, once again includes an introduction by Kier-La Janisse, this one running just under seven minutes.
This is perhaps the best discovery in this set and is indicative of the kind of essential curation that is offered throughout the set.
