About this deal

During the winter some condensation will form, usually near the external wall, this could even be confused with rising damp, which is another story altogether. This rot can eventually cause the joists to become soft at the bearing ends, usually in or on the support walls, as these tend to be the coolest areas with the least air circulation. Externally or internally, these covers provide excellent airflow while also acting as an effective barrier against pests.

The mesh may become blocked with dust, leaves, dirt etc which would restrict or even block air flow and increase the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. The NHBC (National House Building Council) states that air bricks should ideally be placed at least 75mm above ground level. If you can keep air bricks free and clear you will maintain air flowing under your ground floor timbers which will prevent condensation forming, which in turn will prevent damp and rot to your timber floors.

Wide range of products: We are known for offering a wide range of products, including mesh, fencing, netting, and other related products. You will have noticed that if you open a window in a room with the door shut, it is far less effective than opening both the window and the door. Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent.By using Mesh Company’s rodent mesh, you’re taking a significant step towards safeguarding your property from rats, mice, squirrels, and even smaller pests like spiders, ants, wasps, and bees. This can be done very simply with 4 inch (100mm) drain pipes laid side by side as extension tubes for your vents. The best way to clean air bricks and prevent blockages is using a long, narrow bottle cleaner with firm bristles. Solid concrete or lime-based floors do not require wall vents, these shouldn’t be confused with floating concrete floors, which do require ventilation as they have a void underneath them. Choose a bare metal finish to allow to rust for “industrial look” or installation in red brick properties where the rust wont stain the render or bricks, for light bricks and coloured render choose painted black finish.

There were a number of fancy products that could be reconditioned as mouse proof air brick covers, but the downside was that they were not necessarily designed to withstand the weather. There is a potential downside to air bricks – the small holes in air bricks are large enough to allow mice (and other pests) to enter your home: mice can pass through a hole that a pencil can pass through! Please be advised that the majority of woven mesh is usually available in a maximum roll size of 30 metres by 1200mm. If it’s just the surface that’s effected and the centre of the timber is solid you may have caught it early and damage is minimal. As a general rule of thumb, you should place one air brick every one and a half metres to two metres along the wall. Your air bricks should be placed above the external ground level but they obviously need to vent under the internal floor level to allow the passage of air.

I have used these products for the past 10 years and have never had to replace on or had a mouse problem. This condensation is simply water from the air settling on the wood, and wet wood can cause the boards and joists to rot from the underside. We suggest you leave the vents in place and seal any gaps in the floor joists, so the draft remains under the floor.Rodents such as rats, mice, and squirrels cannot enter our Air Vent Covers because they are meticulously designed to prevent them. As a group we work closely with architects and designers to develop ground-breaking new applications for our multifunctional range of materials.
