At about the 200 page mark I was starting to get worried that I might never finish it, and seeing that I still had 300 pages to go, I finally decided to skim the remainder, something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. Ophelia comes from a very old traditional family where girls don’t really get to choose who they marry, just like in middle age. Ophelia –The protagonist of the narrative, Ophelia, is a quiet, reserved young woman who has the ability to understand the history of things.The Mirror Visitor quartet narrates the adventures of Ophelia, a heroine with the power to read objects, as well as to move from one place to another through mirrors. Living in Belgium, the author initially thought that she wanted to pursue a career working as a librarian. The debut fictional novel is titled A Winter’s Promise and is the first of the Mirror Visitor series, which is intended to have four books comprising it. But everything that she has become so used to gets disrupted when something unexpected happens that she never saw coming.

The consequences of coming to Pole may mean that Ophelia never gets back to the life that she knows and also the entire world is altered, perhaps forever.

When Farouk, the ancestral Spirit of Pole, promotes her to Vice-storyteller, Ophelia finds herself thrust into the public spotlight. I see a lot of people in the comments saying they won’t read the book because of this review (which is valid), but I advice for anyone who’s reading this to try for themselves. Ophelia and her family live on Anima, an ark where values like family and warm-heartedness are very important. With their imposing stature, pale hair, light eyes and clan tattoos, Ophelia felt even more diminutive, more dark-haired, more short-sighted and more of a stranger than ever in their midst.
