About this deal

The dialogue is smart, sometimes funny, at times it’s sad, there’s tragedy too so there’s the whole range of aspects of real life. They first cross paths in 1993, when Mallory hosts Cooper’s bachelor party over Labor Day weekend…and the book’s title gives you a pretty good idea of the rest.

28 Summers (28 Summers, book 1) by Elin Hilderbrand 28 Summers (28 Summers, book 1) by Elin Hilderbrand

Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. The main characters were so selfish and illogical in their choices, and whereas I am normally enchanted with Hilderbrand's descriptions of Nantucket - in this book, they seemed overly pretentious - there was an overabundance of name dropping in regard to people and restaurants, etc.I also found it self-centered and weird how Jake and Mallory were so willing to inconvenience their family for the sake of being alone that weekend. Mallory and Jake share a romantic weekend together, but Mallory is reluctant to start a long-distance relationship.

28 Summers: Escape with the perfect sweeping love story for

To get to 2020, Hilderbrand paves a lush path of nostalgia, introducing each year with a rundown of headlines, song lyrics, and pop-culture memories, and also slips in an astute commentary on marriage, showcasing various good ones and bad ones along the way. This is my seventh EH read and despite my one big issue with it, I still thought it a good summer read, but much preferred my recently read EH Summer of 69. We broke up because of the distance but also because I felt like there was something missing…and what was missing was the crazy. The guest are so varied with their adventures and have helped me realise to live adventurously does not have to always big and grand adventures but that small changes. The love affair between Mallory Blessing and Jake McCloud begins in 1993, when Mallory’s brother, Cooper and his two best friends Fray and Jake visit Mallory in Nantucket on Labor Day weekend.Jesse explained that he had just turned 50 years old and that the average life expectancy for a male in the USA, at that time, was 78 years. Honestly, that just kept running through my head and I didn’t feel the excuses were enough (Jake’s been with Ursula forever; Mallory will never leave Nantucket). A bit better because it’s got a who-dunnit twist, but the choppiness in storytelling is distracting. In that moment the idea for 28 Summers was born - a philosophy which, in it's simplest form, is centred on the idea of living adventurously, optimising your health and never, ever trading out happiness TODAY for the promise of a FUTURE we may never see. The main character, Mallory, who is this beautiful smart kind amazing inspiring teacher, is someone who ultimately has no back bone and is truly a tragic character in my mind.
