The S5 II gains a couple of additional functions, including 'Full-range HLG' shooting. This ignores the upper and lower brightness limits that are imposed by the HLG standard, meaning you retain a little more flexibility in the edit. This is handy both if you have HLG as your final intended output or if you're using it as a Log-like intermediate step. Anamorphic support The LUMIX S5IIx will be available from June 2023 as a body only, as well as S 20-60mm lens kits and S 20-60mm with S 50mm F1.8 Twin lens kits. This won't be available until June 2023 - with only a few key feature differences between them, you can decide if you want to buy the S5II now or wait until the S5IIx. For video, the historic thorn in Panasonic’s side has been its insistence to shun phase detection autofocus; that is, until now. The Lumix S5 II has hybrid contrast-detection AF for photos, and an all-new phase-detection system for video. Judging from its implementation here, I'm fully expecting to see this hybrid AF system in future Panasonic mirrorless cameras, certainly those for advanced users.

Panasonic Lumix S5IIX: full-sensor internal 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2) and 5.9K (16:9) footage at 30fps, 4:2:2 C4K and 4K at up to 60fps Panasonic’s full-frame Lumix system unfairly goes under the radar, compared to alternatives from the likes of Sony and Canon; but if Panasonic wasn’t already being taken seriously, it should be now. Put simply, I can trust the Lumix S5 II as a reliable tool for creating high-quality videos and stills, and like my GH5, it represents excellent value for money. In some cases you may need to switch to using a small AF point. Panasonic hasn’t made any changes to the screen on the Lumix S5IIX in companion with the S5 or S5II, it has a 3-inch 1,840,000-dot vari-angle touchscreen. The vari-angle joint enables the screen to be flipped out to the side of the camera and angled up or down, or rotated to face forwards for vlogging and presenting to the camera.
After shooting a few clips of video with the Panasonic Lumix S5IIX’s Image Stabiliser set to its ‘Normal’ mode and with the E-Stabilisaion or Boost IS at Panasonic’s launch event for the S5IIX, I felt it was safe continue in that mode. My faith is borne out by the results as the footage is remarkably stable. That’s very useful for anyone wanting to work without a gimbal or a tripod, and it means you can avoid the crop of the electronic stabilisation unless you really need it. To enhance the performance of LUMIX S5II and S5IIX, the functions below will be available with future firmware update following the needs of customers. While Panasonic says the sensor in the S5 II is also new, from what we've seen its performance appears to be similar to its non-phase-detect predecessor, which suggests that its newfound ability to shoot at up to 30fps in e-shutter mode is more about having a processor able to cope with this speed. The Panasonic Lumix S5II and Panasonic Lumix S5IIX were both announced at CES on 4th January 2023. The two cameras have a lot in common, but the S5IIX has a few extra features that may appeal to dedicated videographers. However, it’s not slated to go on sale until mid-May 2023 whereas the S5II went on sale in January 2023. With that in mind, we’re going to compare the key features of the two cameras and pull out their differences. Panasonic Lumix S5II Panasonic Lumix S5IIX Sensor As someone who thrashes their camera kit about, I appreciate the sturdy build quality of the S5 II. It’s a compact, DSLR-style mirrorless camera that's comfortable to hold for long periods, and I’m confident it would last me through years of heavy use. IP streaming might not be high on the list of priorities of most filmmakers, but remote filming over the Internet is a rapidly growing field of operation, and right now the S5 IIX is the model to get if that capability is important to you now, or might be in the future. There’s also a clutch of video-centric display options shutter angle, waveform, vectorscope, and histogram. The vari-angle hinge also means that the screen can be made clearly visible whether the camera is in portrait or landscape orientation.If the resolution is higher than C4K, the frame rate is higher than 60p or set to ProRes, the camera may stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera cools down. Both cameras, the S5II and the S5IIX, are equipped with the same 24.2MP full-frame sensor and processing engine, implying that, all else being equal, the image quality should be identical.
