DJI Mavic 3 vs Mavic 3 Cine vs Mavic 3 Classic vs Mavic 3 Enterprise vs Mavic 3 Thermal vs Mavic 3 Multispectral: In-depth Comparison ProRes has its advantages with less compressed 10-bit recordings, but the H.265 is very good. Hopefully, DJI will also improve the other codec options as well in the future. Fly So, with six Mavic 3 aircraft to choose from, which one is right for you, and what do the Mavic 3E, Mavic 3T, and Mavic 3M bring to the party? The Mavic 3M is also compatible with DJI Terra (to create maps and models) as well as the DJI SmartFarm app, which allows agricultural professionals to coordinate any data gathered with spraying and spreading operations. The extra hovering time available combined with the number of options available does encourage hovering with eyes away from the aircraft which isn’t an approach recommended by many aviation authorities.

Yes, the Mavic 3 Cine has more recording options, but it also has the DJI RC Pro controller, and after flying a few times, I realized that I would like the DJI RC Pro controller with the non-Cine model. While the release could have been better with more features working, the Mavic 3 has come a long way since November 2021. The image is really good, and the H.265 codec gives you a solid recording. Yes, it’s computer-intensive to work with, but with a newer computer system such as the M1 Macs, it’s not bad at all. Transcoding is always an option or proxy workflows.

Sensing

I have read that some people have experienced flyaways or the Mavic 3 just stops communicating with the remote. I personally haven’t experienced this, but it is well documented. Hopefully, DJI will continue to improve by fixing these bugs with future firmware updates. Sensing As its name suggests, the key differentiator is the addition of its 640 x 512 @ 30 Hz radiometric thermal sensor. Both the Mavic 3 Pro Cine and Mavic 3 Cine have an internal 1TB SSD to cater for these larger Apple ProRes files. A microSD card can also be inserted for additional capacity. With its heftier price tag, support for Apple ProRes and internal 1TB SSD, plus the fact it comes with the DJI RC Pro as standard, the Cine's target market is very much professional filmmakers and production houses, for high-end, top-level content creation.

Another feature that sits in the area of safety is the Mavic 3's new positioning algorithm, which claims to improve hovering precision with less drifting by connecting to GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou satellites. This is, of course, welcome, but it’s impossible to see a difference between the Mavic 3 and previous-generation models when the drone is hovering. While both models of the Mavic 3 offer a maximum of 5.1K @ 50fps video recording, only the Mavic 3 Cine offers the Apple ProRes 422 HQ encoding and a built-in 1TB SSD (vs 8 GB in the non-cine edition) to store all that beautiful footage. Meanwhile, the Tele camera has a fixed f/4.4 aperture with up to 4K @ 30fps video and 4x digital zoom (28x hybrid zoom). The Cine model has 1TB of internal memory, and I don’t see this as a big plus as you have to use the internal memory if you want to record ProRes HQ. The MicroSD option isn’t fast enough. The DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral is engineered for agriculture, land management, and environmental monitoring. It is a revamped farming drone to supersede DJI's older multispectral platform, the Phantom 4 Multispectral. Find out how the two compare in our Mavic 3M vs P4M comparison blog. The Medium Tele Camera on the Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3 Pro Cine supports HLG/D-Log M, while the single Tele Camera on the original Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Series, does not. The drone automatically plans a flight route based on the user's pre-set waypoints and can precisely repeat routes. DJI’s newest revision of the Mavic line is nothing short of impressive. While the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine feature a sleek upgrade to the body with thinner arms and smoother lines, yet it still retains that iconic Mavic look. DJI boasts the imaging system on the Mavic 3 as its pièce de resistance, stating “Imaging Above Everything” and the camera system onboard proves it. Featuring a massive 20 MP Hasselblad 4/3rds CMOS image sensor, more commonly seen in small DSLR and mirrorless cameras than on drones. This sensor captures colors and hues unparalleled in previous revisions of the Mavic. This new DJI RC Pro controller only comes with the Cine Premium Combo, with the Standard and Fly More bundles instead coming with the DJI RC-N1 pad. (Image credit: Future)

In a nutshell, each drone in the Mavic 3 range has a very defined role to play, based on their specific capabilities: Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Cine, and Mavic 3 Classic are aimed at content creators, with the Cine especially suited to high-end filmmaking; the Mavic 3 Enterprise is engineered for high-precision, centimetre-accurate surveying and inspection; the Mavic 3 Thermal is designed for search and rescue, public safety and thermal inspection and thermal mapping; and the Mavic 3M is best suited to agriculture, land management, and environmental monitoring. And for operators looking for a lightweight, portable and dependable solution, the Mavic 3 range certainly covers all bases. The table below provides some key specs of each controller, including the differences between the DJI RC Pro and DJI RC smart controllers. For a more in-depth comparison, read the DJI RC Pro vs DJI RC vs DJI RC-N1 blog. Below are the updates that have been released since the introduction of the Mavic 3. Firmware Version 01.00.0400 (Dec 2021) In-depth comparison between the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine, DJI Mavic 3 Classic, DJI Mavic 3, and DJI Mavic 3 Cine - all designed for aerial content creation;Another key difference between all of the drones is that the Mavic 3 Cine and Mavic 3 Pro Cine use Apple ProRes - the industry standard for high-quality video and one of the best practical HD formats available for cinematography. Combine this with the drone's Tele camera which helps it achieve 56x hybrid zoom, and you have an aircraft which is a powerful, lightweight and portable tool for law enforcement, looking for missing people or spotting abnormalities/defects during inspections. Outside the cover, the drone looks much more like the Air 2S; the legs are thinner and the vision sensors placed diagonally on the corners rather than glaring forward like those on the Mavic 2. The top and rear side vents offer a slightly aggressive posture though the spindly legs offset that.

The Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3 Pro Cine have three cameras: That Hasselblad sensor, as well as Dual Tele Cameras. Mavic 3 Thermal designed for public safety, search and rescue and inspection. Only Mavic 3 drone to have a thermal sensor. The Mavic 3T is compatible with accessories, including loud speaker, and can be used with DJI FlightHub 2, especially suited for public safety teams to enhance situational awareness and teamwide collaboration; Mavic 3 Pro is C2 certified, and Mavic 3 Classic is C1 certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Engineered for quality content creation and utilising that Hasselblad sensor, all of the Mavic 3 drones have: Now there are six Mavic 3 drones in the mix: The Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic 3 Classic, Mavic 3 Enterprise, Mavic 3 Thermal, and Mavic 3 Multispectral.

The Mavic 3 Enterprise can also be used with DJI FlightHub 2 and is compatible with the new smart controller, the DJI RC Pro Enterprise with 1,000 nit high-brightness screen.
