About this deal

I would almost never call a woman a slut. I think it endorses a really sexist idea of women's sexuality. This book really stretched my beliefs though. Steffans tries to make it sound like she had relationships with a lot of famous hip hop stars and athletes but when she gets down to the details she mainly slept with them, sometimes in exchange for financial support. In 2004, after her appearance in A Man Apart, Steffans modelled for Smooth magazine's 'Hollywood Swimsuit' issue, and appeared on its cover [7] the following year in conjunction with the release of her first book. [1] In 2007, Karrine Steffans appeared in an exclusive photo-layout and on the cover of King magazine. [8] Actress and rap career [ edit ]

a b c d Nia-Malika Henderson (July 29, 2005). "A Bawdy Lifestyle, and How to Shake It". The Washington Post. I read this with a certain schadenfreude in that no matter how bad my love life is, it's not this bad. The author is a good storyteller and it make this story easy to read. On the other hand, she's an unreliable narrator and often says contradicts herself and tries to paint herself in the best light no matter what happens. In her first marriage, she includes diary entries of events but in another entry it contradicts her account of when they last had sex. Even more interesting is Steffans told Milan that having sex with lots of men helps a woman know exactly what she wants which makes her able to reject more men. In fact she’s working on a new book now about slut shaming and sexual freedom. Karrine Steffans Biography". HarperCollins Speakers Bureau. December 12, 2006. Archived from the original on August 18, 2009. While we're not sure if, in fact, Method Man cheated on his wife with Wendy Williams or his wife's doctor, he's definitely a messy boots! When Diddy gets really high and paranoid and warns Xzibit about Superhead, "she'll have you on video with your fingers in your booty." the first sex scene with Ja Rule is incredibly hilarious, because Superhead/Karrine Steffans is a terrible writer. Every time she has sex with someone she talks about their bodies/lips "pressing together" or "sealing together." This was probably the most descriptive sex scene in the book. I feel bad for Ja Rule. Nobody wants to have their sex life on display like that! In 2003, Steffans appeared in the action movie A Man Apart, starring Vin Diesel. [5] In 2007, musicians Datwon Thomas and DJ Rhude released a mixtape called Freaky Flows, with a spoken word introduction and epilogue by Karrine Steffans, made available for free through King magazine. [9] Author [ edit ] This is far and away the worst of them. First of all, Steffans tries to identify herself as a "video vixen" but then reveals in the book that most women in music videos are actually professional models and have little to do with the hip hop social scene.

Confessions of a Video Vixen recounts Steffans' life from her troubled girlhood living in poverty in St. Thomas, through abuse, drugs, rape and living as a teenage runaway who turns to stripping and hip hop modeling to support herself and, later, her young son.

The biggest discrepancy that I found really hard to swallow was relating to her realtionship with Kool G Rap. She states initially that she was 'wed' to him under her alias Yizette Santiago with a fake age, ID, etc, ergo, the marriage was not actually binding (supposedly unbeknownst to Kool G). But later on she goes into detail about how her credit was ruined as a result of Kool G misusing her accounts during their time together. How would he have been able to do that if he didn't even have access to her real name???? Steffans, Karrine (2015). Vindicated: Confessions of a Video Vixen, Ten Years Later. BenBella Books. The only interesting feature of this book is the private/sexual profiles of the stars mentioned above. I'm talking quirky behaviours and situational anecdotes, not techniques or girths, because the narrative is surprisingly romantic rather than descriptive or detailed. There's a lot of melting, filling, stroking, floating, etc., going on, a surplus of feeling without insight, but such can be found in any run-of-the-mill romance novel. It has its moments. For example, Ice-T is a main character in the book. I remembered reading Ice-T's prologue to Iceberg Slim's Pimp so I was curious about his own pimp lifestyle. It turns out that he is a most gracious, philosophical pimp. Ice-T was the force that brought Steffans to the West Coast, he opened up avenues for her exposure, as long as she put out and he was interested. When they would hold hands in public, she was only allowed to grasp his pinky finger; a symbolic gesture, meaning she could only ever possess a small part of him. He fixed her up with her first jobs in the hip hop industry, which made her the celebrated whore she is today, so when he finally cut her loose, what did he require in return? A white Cadillac, paid upon success. That's pimp! Steffans was born in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and moved to Florida when she was 10 years old. She has written about her troubled childhood: she grew up in poverty, suffered emotional and physical abuse at the hands of an alcoholic mother and indifferent father, and was raped when she was 13. She ran away at 16, and began working as an exotic dancer. She lived on the streets for a month. She lived in New York and Arizona, and then moved to Los Angeles in 1999. She currently resides near Hollywood. [3] When she was 17, Steffans moved in with rapper Nathaniel Wilson, better known as Kool G Rap, with whom she had a son. Their relationship was "tumultuous", and Steffans says she left for Los Angeles to protect her son after physical abuse landed her in the hospital. I don’t fault her for telling her life story and feel sorry for the abuse she has suffered but if she wants to send a message there could have sermonized a little more plus certain things she thinks are romantic seem more to be her being taken advantage of more or just wrong Like the Jay-Z story or the Irv gotti story. She also seems to sensualize some of her stories but then they just end abruptly yet she can tell you exact details of materialistic things like what suit a person wore or what kind of car a person drove plus the interior of the car.
