About this deal

The five-finger design allowed me to gently brush all over, including her head, face, body, legs, and tail, while the soft rubber nodules gently collected fur. The Velcro wrist straps kept the gloves secure on my hands. For best results, brush in the direction of hair growth. The handle of the FURminator is also unique. It's ergonomically designed, making it very, very comfortable. This is a great asset if you have a dog that requires a lot of grooming. Our chocolate Labrador has a double coat, so I have to brush her for 45-60 minutes during heavy shedding seasons. Without an ergonomically designed handle, I would surely feel a lot of hand fatigue while deshedding my dog. Overall, this is just a really nice brush. It's lightweight yet sturdy and comfortable to hold. The stainless steel pins have safety tips for gentle brushing, and the nylon bristles are soft yet stiff enough to do some good hair removal. Measuring 12 inches long and 3 inches wide, the brush is well-sized for small to large dogs. However, it's not suited to the job of grooming toy breeds. For that, consider the Burt's Bees Double-Sided brush. You'll find a stainless steel brush head on all three of the products I chose for this deshedding tool comparison, which brings us to the third point that they have in common.

Groomi deshedding tool Why pet owners are obsessed with the Groomi deshedding tool

Safari Combo Brush for Dogs: This brush felt a little flimsy in the hand and didn't remove as much hair as some of the other combo brushes. Conair Pro Dog Undercoat Rake: I really liked the comfortable memory grip handle on this brush, but it just didn't remove hair as well as the other deshedding tools that I tested. The Furminator Undercoat Deshedding Toolsafely and effectively removes loose, dead undercoat hair as well as dirt and debris. PERFECT FOR ALL PETS]: This multi-animal tool can be used on horses, large and small dogs, cats and other small pets while ensuring a consistently clean finish between each animal. Unlike other brands that are specific to one style of hair or breed, the Groomi Tool is versatile between all dogs, cats and horses on hair up to 4 inches long. These brushes are best for dogs with smooth or short coats. "I use a curry brush on short-haired dogs during or right after a bath," Edmond said. "I like to use it on dogs that are heavily shedding."

Smooth: This type of coat consists of short, close-lying hair that grows in only one layer (no undercoat). Some breeds with smooth coats include bulldogs, Dalmatians, Boston terriers, Doberman pinschers, greyhounds, and Weimaraners. It has a removable head, same as the DakPets tool has, and is another one-size-fits-most deshedding tool. The Furminator Undercoat Deshedding Tool landed in the top spot. I tested it on a Labrador retriever that sheds very heavily. The amount of hair I was able to remove from her coat was astonishing. It was far more than I could remove with the three other deshedding tools I tested. The DakPets deshedding tool for dogs is much lighter, but it doesn't have an ergonomically designed handle. One thing that the DakPets tool has over the FURminator brush is its removable head. With the simple push of a button you can slide the head off for easy cleaning and safe storage. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Grooming Gloves are the best of the four styles we tested. I used these gloves on a Labrador retriever that isn't a big fan of being brushed. Not only did the gloves remove a lot of loose hair, but she lay down on her side and was happy for me to continue brushing all over her body.

Brushing your dog may feel like a chore, but regular brushing prevents tangles and mats. These snarled knots of hair can get trapped in their coat, which can cause discomfort, irritate the skin, and even cause infections. Frequent brushing also distributes healthy oils and removes loose hair from the coat before it sheds all over your clothes and home. This is another lightweight grooming tool, which means you'll be much more comfortable using it for an extended period of time.

The best dog brushes in 2023

JW Pet Gripsoft Pin Brush: This is a nice brush and I like the comfortable grip, but I didn't love the smaller surface area of the head compared to other brushes.

Equipped with two brush styles and a nonslip handle, the versatile Hartz Combo Brush is ideal for dogs with many different coat types. Fill the container in this brush with dog shampoo or conditioner and press the button to dispense the product into your pet’s wet hair. The bristles loosen the dog’s hair, helping the shampoo and conditioner to reach his skin. The bathing brush makes washing your dog easier and more effective. JW Pet Gripsoft Double-Sided Brush: A very nice brush and close runner-up to the Hartz Groomer's Best Combo Dog Brush, which felt sturdier and performed slightly better. Long hair: Long-haired dogs may have silky or coarse hair. Some long-haired dogs have an undercoat while others do not. Breeds with long hair include Afghan hounds, Maltese, Shih Tzus, and Yorkshire terriers.

Four Paws Magic Coat Dual-Purpose Curry Brush: A nice curry brush (although I can't really attest to its purported antimicrobial properties), but it didn't perform as well as the Bodhi or Furbliss brushes. Pros: Stainless steel pins with rounded, polished tips for comfort; durable design; firm cushion with air vent for flexibility; comfortable wooden body and handle Safari Wire Pin Brush for Dogs: This brush was okay, but it didn't remove hair as well as other brushes I tested. The durable, high-quality Chris Christensen Oval Pin Brush glides through the coat and gently detangles hair without painful pulling. While it's more expensive than the DakPets tool, it's more affordable than the FURminator dog brush. Also, in my experience, Magic Pro worked better than the DakPets deshedding tool on all three of our dogs. I would recommend this brush to anyone looking for a universal deshedding tool to use on multiple dogs of different sizes and coat types.
