It takes up to 12 hours to fully re-charge the lithium-Ion battery built inside the toothbrush handle. Despite having personally used the Genius 9000 daily for the last 3 years, I rarely refer to the app. In part, because I know I am brushing right, and in part, because I find it a little cumbersome. It's a seriously stylish electric toothbrush, too, with a sleek, minimalist design and chic carry case to keep it charged on the go. It's also the quietest electric toothbrush we've tested to date, emitting only a subtle hum.
Basically it works slightly differently to the motor in the Genius X, but it achieves the same results. The benefit being really that it is quite a bit quieter than the Genius X, about 10 decibels quieter. Of the major brands, it is Philips Sonicare that lead the charge (no pun intended), with many of their brushes outperforming the claimed battery life and more often than not achieving 3+ weeks usage on a full charge.

Of course, one of the unique features of the Genius X is the charging travel case. It is similar in its operation to the charging stand, but the brush lays in the case rather than standing upright on the stand.With the magnetic charging stand, you can recharge the iO’s battery in around 3 hours, compared to the 12 hours of the Genius X. The other main problem is that despite having sensors on-board, the Genius X’s brains are still in your smartphone. That is to say, the toothbrush still needs to be paired with your phone each time you want to assess your brushing style.

Two of the more cost effective models within the Oral-B range of electric toothbrushes, these two are among the most popular models available on the market today and either serve the vast majority of users very well. It's not quite as chic. However, if you want a brilliant toothbrush and aren't a frequent traveler, it's one of the best options around. As mentioned above, the Oral B Genius X comes with 6 cleaning modes. However, modes can only be changed while the toothbrush is powered on, which may make switching modes a little messy if users have to take the toothbrush out of their mouths to find and press the mode button. However, familiarity with the location of the mode button over time should make this easier.Manufactures, not just Oral-B often overstate the benefits of the additional modes. That is not to say they can’t be beneficial, but more beneficial is using the correct brushing technique and brushing for the right amount of time over which mode to use. One of the biggest differences is that the Pro 2 2000, which is the more premium model offers an extra cleaning mode. Sonicare’s sonic cleaning action is still extremely good, just different and requires a fraction more work from you, the user, than an Oral-B brush does. On the rear of the handle rather than raised plastic ridges, the 3000 has a more subtle dimpled surface. Once opened, there is even a place to sit your smartphone, so you can conveniently place it and use the app when travelling.
