Her legacy from her mother is more complicated - until one question from a stranger inspires a change. What if it isn't about fitting in, but finding the people who make you who you are? Who would those people be? Butler, Laura (27 July 2012). "Baby boy for Cecelia and David". Herald.ie. Herald.ie . Retrieved 27 June 2014. As one can imagine, it doesn’t necessarily go as planned and letters to the likes of Amal Clooney and an Irish Olympian disappear into the ether.

Jarlath Regan (20 December 2015). "Cecelia Ahern". An Irishman Abroad (Podcast) (118ed.). SoundCloud . Retrieved 21 December 2015. I loved the father-daughter relationship in this too and Allegra's bond with Pops was just so, so lovely though I'm biased as I am also very close to my dad so I love reading similar. Sometimes a girl just needs her dad, and it was this type of scene near the end that brought me to tears. Pops was a wonderful character, odd in his own way exactly like Allegra but totally accepting of the type of person she was.

Her book The Gift was published just before Christmas 2008 in the UK. [9] Her following book, The Book of Tomorrow, was published on 1 October 2009. In 2016, Cecelia released Flawed, her first book for young adults, and Lyrebird. I’ve always written about characters on journeys of self-discovery and increasingly I’ve been writing about outsiders. Allegra is exactly that, an outsider, a unique individual with an intriguing take, but one whose journey is so relatable. Allegra is trying to find her place, where she fits in, and find that human connection” She’s certainly irascible but Ahern’s given her layer upon layer. Despite her rigidity for example, she’s unpredictable and full of surprises. All Allegra has ever wanted was to join the Garda, but when that falls through, she moves to Dublin to work as a traffic warden and look for her mother. Sometimes the people who have the power to change your life are the ones who have been there all along…

I was so enticed by the story and Cecilia as always pulled me In with her writing style and I felt connected to each of the characters, although there were a couple with whom I did not like. Kidman is “so sharp, the way she analyses things …,” says Ahern, who is an executive producer on the project. “I am learning a lot.” She is also writing another TV series and working alongside her husband on the production elements. Boxing This book surprised me in how much I ended up enjoying it by the end (genuine tears in my eyes/lump in my throat at some bits at the end!). I think I was being a bit snobby thinking this was going to be fine, but nothing amazing and while it wasn't the best book I've read this year, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and Allegra's journey. It’s not perfect by all means; it’s a little bit predictable in places, but then I can’t think how else I would have wanted it to end if it wasn’t. I also wish we could have learnt a little more about some characters, but it didn’t matter so much, there was just something about it that I thoroughly enjoyed. Cecelia Ahern Opts For Unusual Name As She Welcomes Third Child". 7 October 2019 . Retrieved 1 October 2023. I'm always up for reading a book by Cecelia Ahern, she always brings the unexpected with her women's fiction and contemporary tales. This one however, didn't hit the spot for me although the format of audio was pretty great and kept me going.

Allegra Bird moves away from her small town to the big smoke with a dream job and a huge secret mission that would change her life forever, if only she had the courage to follow it through. That is when her journey really begins. And in true Allegra Bird style, the road is pretty turbulent along the way. A: I can’t think of books that specifically changed me, no, but there are stand out books in my life. The Famous Five, Sweet Valley Twins and The Babysitters Club represent the first books that got me hooked on reading as a nine year old. I read The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield during a period of great change and transformation in my life which opened my eyes to so much. The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, The Tiny Wife by Andrew Kauffman, The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly by Sun-Mi Hwang, The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman by Denis Theriault are my ideas of the perfect books and a left-of-field genre I adore. Her legacy from her mother is more complicated – until one question from a stranger inspires a change. What if it isn’t about fitting in, but finding the people who make you who you are? Who would those people be? Before starting her writing and producing career, she obtained a degree in journalism and media communications from Griffith College Dublin, but withdrew from a master's degree course to pursue her writing career. [2]This is a life affirming and inspiring story, a warm embrace, a hand to hold and the resounding chance to join the dots and journey to the stars. In a Nutshell: This was a very nice read, better than I had expected. Kinda slow, but with memorable lead characters. I’ve never read any of Ahern’s other books but her style with this one was captivating. Her descriptive passages were finely detailed and showed some serious skills. When I am mesmerised by everyday actions such as washing hair or eating lunch on a bench, you know the girl can write. Told from Allegra’s first person point of view, Ahern also dispenses with quotation marks and this, for me, just added another layer of intimacy. I loved how the author used the city of Dublin in Allegra’s narrative. So many books mention the names the story is set in but they hardly go beyond mentioning a couple of local sights. This book doesn’t provide the touristy version; rather, it gives a resident’s view into the functioning of the city. I enjoyed that authentic sound. (Author Cecelia Ahern’s being Irish helps, of course.)
