Essie Gel Couture ‘Lace To The Alter’* – a ‘ soft elegant ivory sheer accented with iridescent pearls’. This is not at all my kind of colour (spam hands ahoy!) but I think it would make a really pretty nail varnish topper to give a bit of shimmer to your manicure. This was very sheer on application so I applied three coats to get this opacity. It’s a silver-blue toned white with fairly chunky glitter to really catch the light. After theOTT glamour of the festive season – all gaudy golds, rich luxurious reds and cosy greens –I feel like I need a bit of a colour palette cleanser before I get into the pretty bright pastels of spring/summer. If you’re the same then you will be as enamoured with the Essie Gel Couture Ballet Nudes collection as I am. I really like how healthy Vanity fairest makes my nails look. They look very healthy and glowy. I’m wearing three coats in the picture. With one coat it mainly gives a nice shine, but it looks already very pretty with two coats.

This is Essie Hello world. If you’re thinking now that you never heard of this polish before, you might be right: this is a European-only shade. It’s probably the most spectacular out of these sheer Essie shades, but also the one that is the most opaque. Hello world contains a gorgeous iridescent shimmer that flashes from blue/green to pink/purple. It reminds me a lot of these loose unicorn powders that you can use for gel nail polish. From a distance, it kind of gives a pearly vibe, similar to Essie Pillow talk-the-talk or Essie Pretty in ink.Essie Gel Couture ‘Dress Is More’* – ‘a sheer creamy white dusted with pink’. I love these types of polishes as they just make you look instantly put together and chic. A milky, palest pink-beige that was ridiculously shiny even without top coat and looks lovely and plumped up. I did three fairly generous coats to get this coverage. Picture perfect was released in the Essie x Reem Acra wedding 2018 collection. It is officially discontinued, so the shade might become more difficult to find. Picture perfect is actually extremely close to Lace is more. Picture perfect leans a bit whiter in the bottle, but it has a similar gold shimmer. Essie ‘Lace Me Up’* – The palest of pale pink nudes, described as a ‘misty rose pink’. I had to do three coats to get rid of the streaks, which isn’t uncommon with very light colours. It’s slightly morepink-toned that these photos show and would suit pretty much everyone.

All of theEssie Gel Couture Ballet Nudes polishes are inspired by the pretty colours so often found in the ballet world: elegant pinks, soft greys and dreamy creams. Essie ‘Satin Slippers’* – A peach-white nude that Essie call a ‘silky champagne ivory’. It’s very close in colour to the previous polish but is a little bit more yellow-toned and has that beautiful white/gold shimmer running through it which catches the light. Similarly to ‘Lace Me Up’, this needed three thin coats to get rid of any bald spots. ALCOHOL DENAT. ADIPIC ACID/NEOPENTYL GLYCOL/TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER HYDROGENATED ACETOPHENONE/OXYMETHYLENE COPOLYMER Hello world should be easy to find in Europe, since it’s part of Essie’s permanent collection. If you’re living in North America, you might want to book a trip to Europe, or find a European friend, who is willing to ship this pretty one to you! ConclusionEssie ‘At The Barre’* – This is a warm nude that Essie describe as ‘soft cinnamon nude’ but I think is the exact colour of coffee ice cream. I love shades like this on everyone else but on me they’re just not as pretty: the dreaded spam hands appear and you all know how I feel about that. You could probably get away with one coat for full coverage, but I think it looked better with two. I love that Essie have brought out a nudes range with colours that will look good on everyone, rather than the typical shadeswhich tend to exclude WoC. It’s not easy to give one conclusion of which is the best of these five shades; it all depends on what you’re looking for. The new essie Bridal 2017 collection is here and they’ve released it in the beautiful Gel Couture formulation. These are high-shine, long-lasting nail varnishes that don’t require a lamp to cure them. I’ve swatched the whole collection below, let’s take a look!
