About this deal

Het zijn losse hoofdstukken die je zelf aan elkaar moet rijgen om het verhaal over een disfunctioneel gezin te compleet krijgen omdat ze niet in tijdsvolgorde staan. Melancholiek. Mooi geschreven. Well, forget that one (I really wish that was possible), because this one is a different kettle of fish. A 747 crashes in Eton killing everyone on board, except the co-pilot, who inexplicably survives quite unharmed, memories of the (short) flight and crash completely gone though. His struggle to understand and remember is soon fueled by the fact that strange and horrible things are happening in Eton and they soon seem to be connected to the crash. This is an excellent action filled read that features some really good characters and multi levelled plots. And the story is pretty good too. Aside from research on airplanes and piloting techniques, Herbert somehow manages to mash together plane crashes, the spirit world, and even some good old fashioned gothic horror elements to make a unique story that stands out from others in this genre. For me the best thing about this book is how realistic the characters are. Their actions and dialog are genuine and relatable. I enjoyed learning about all the townsfolk, both 12 years ago and at present time. It provided a lot of murder suspects and a lot of red herrings. Tons of fun!

He is targeted by the big boss behind the bank raid, a psychopathic Ukranian mobster who thinks nothing of killing innocent people. Nat has to do his bidding or risk losing his family. In the vein of The Dinner and Atonement, an instant international sensation sold in over 30 countries, in which three brothers confront the shattering childhood event that changed the course of their lives.

The #1 international bestselling author of You're Next, unleashes his most accomplished, compelling thriller yet The Survivor is one of those very rare horror novels that’s not only incredibly readable, but actually legit spooky. There are a couple of chapters here (specifically chapter 11 and chapter 19) that are flat out some of the creepiest moment in a novel I’ve read in a long time. I won’t say it’s nightmare inducing by any means, but the way Herbert writes and the way he ties things into the story is quite good. James Herbert was Britain's number one bestselling writer (a position he held ever since publication of his first novel) and one of the world's top writers of thriller/horror fiction. olarak yazım tarzını çok beğendim. Anyways, I’m glad I joined in reading this one because, if it’s any indication of his other stuff, I’m going to be a huge Herbert fan.

Liam held a bulldozer over Kieran’s head ....held him responsible- and was unforgiving towards Kieran. I felt that the characters were well developed. There was enough detail to keep me informed and have a clear picture in my mind but there was not so much detail that I became bored while I was reading. I also liked that the intimate scenes were not too graphic. The interactions and responses from the characters seemed realistic to me and made me want to know even more about them when I finished the book. With his freedom, Josef returned home to find that he was the only one left alive in an extended family of 150. Compelled by the need to do something to avenge that loss, he joined the Jewish police while still in a displaced persons' camp, and was recruited as an intelligence officer for the US Army who gave him a team to search for Nazis in hiding. You know you're having a bad day when your suicide attempt is interrupted by a bank robbery. Just the kind of day Nate Overbay is having. He's on an 11th floor ledge - having crawled out of the window of his bank - very carefully choosing his landing spot in a dumpster (so he doesn't squash anyone) when he hears a gunshot and sees the blood splatter on the window next to him. When he realizes that a group of masked gunmen are robbing the bank, Nate is torn. He's determined to go through with his jump, but the gunmen have already killed a couple of people and they make clear they're perfectly willing to kill more, including a little girl who reminds Nate of his own daughter. What's an ex-soldier to do?However, the non linear format of the storytelling, the jumping about in time does make it a confusing story to follow. I fully appreciate why ithe author has chosen to do this as we are following Ben’s memories that will obviously flit about and there’s also some inevitable concealment. The characters were mainly believable and engaging, particularly Nate and his family. I did think that some of the plot involving Pavlo were a little far fetched in places but there was enough tension and twists and turns in the story to keep the reader’s interest. A recommended read. Nate becomes an overnight hero. He has one wound and after returning from the hospital, the surviving gunman and three other men are waiting in his apartment. The leader is a man named Pavel and Nate is told that he must retrieve something in a safe deposit box at the bank or Nate's daughter will be made to suffer in ways that Nate couldn't forsee.

While I liked this novel, I preferred “The Lost Man” as I just loved the characters of Nathan and Xander. That being said, Ms. Harper is becoming a favorite author of mine as I love character-driven fiction. James Herbert’s 1976 tale, The Survivor, seemed like it would be right up my alley. And for over 3/4 of it, it was. And then there was the ending. Ugh.

Out now

This is a dark and unsettling read. This is one dysfunctional family, where the parents are neglectful and drink too much. There is little communication between them and I really felt for the boys who were pretty much left to l I have read a few books by Gregg Hurwitz and they are always a thrilling read. This one is no exception. I was ready to get to work helping mom and dad, ( Brian and Verity), along with our key protagonist, Kieran Elliot, ( and girlfriend, Mia), help move Brian into a memory care facility. Brian had advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
