About this deal

I love that the Good Egg is self-reflective and takes it upon himself to make some healthy choices. He gets out in nature, reads lots, writes, paints and de-stresses with yoga and bubble baths. It’s good to present these options to kids and encourage them to find their own calming practices. Have you read The Good Eggby John Jory and Pete Oswald? If you have not, make it a priority to read it! This book is by the same author of The Bad Seed, and is hilarious. In addition to being funny, there is a great message that goes along with the book. The Good Egg You could also use The Good Egg to make a connection to tattling. Even though the Good Egg never tattle-tails, he IS overly concerned with everyone else’s behavior; just like the little kiddos who are always coming in after recess and lunch break with tattles about everyone and thing under the sun. Good Egg Circle: Sit in a circle and pass around a plastic egg. When a child is holding the egg they can say, “I’m a good egg when ….” I have created literacy graphic organizers for The Good Egg. You can find them at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. There are many activities for each literacy area to differentiate depending on your student’s ability/age. They include activities for:

Dynamic duo Jory John and Pete Oswald hatch a funny and charming story that reminds us of the importance of balance, self-care, and accepting those we love (even if they are sometimes a bit rotten). This is one of those titles that makes me so happy to be a children's librarian. That there are such talented authors and illustrators in the world who dedicate their time to bringing joy to children and adults through such charming works is a blessing.

Did we miss something on diversity?

In The Good Egg by Jory John, an egg suffering from a breakdown, takes some time out and realises it doesn’t have to be perfect. The book's themes include: Families can talk about how the main character feels like an outsider in The Good Egg. Have you ever felt like the different one in a group? How did you handle that?

The Good Egg : An Easter And Springtime Book For Kids

Kids will love the hilarious antics of the bad eggs, while teachers, parents, and some children will likely recognize themselves in the good egg. Doesn’t worrying about others, trying to make everything perfect, and neglecting to look after yourself sound awfully familiar? After reading this story, we will be looking at the character traits that The Good Egg has at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Here is an anchor chart that we will be using to help guide us. Seriously disappointed in the message this book sends to young children - do a lot of superficial, selfish tasks, and you’ll feel better about everyone else’s bad behavior.A veeeeeeerrryyyyy good egg spends its time helping others and trying to be perfect. It carries out good deeds… whether this is helpful or even needed is another matter! Have you read the story Winter Dance? It`s a fun story about a fox who is trying to figure out what he should do now that winter is here.

Study the Illustrations: Sometimes words don’t match actions. Look closely at the spread where the Good Egg describes all the good things he does. Do his words match the pictures? I remember a few years ago a parent asked me for books for a 7 year old about being a perfectionist and anxiety about others being less than perfect. This would have been a great story for that kid! Egg is so sweet and well-meaning and drawn so adorably. Fox visit other first animals to ask their advice. They suggest activities that work for them, but they won`t necessarily work for Fox. The message of putting yourself before others is not what I want to teach my kids. The extreme bad behavior of the other eggs is unrealistic, and the author has the Good Egg deal with that behavior by going on a solo journey of “self care,” including going to a spa and “breathing in and out.” That type of “self care” doesn’t work in real life, so why teach it to children, furthering the selfish “world-revolves-around-me” mentality of youth today. Venn Diagram: Have the children complete a venn diagram with either words or pictures, comparing themselves to the Good Egg.From the bestselling creators of The Bad Seed, a timely story about not having to be Grade A perfect! I think every classroom needs this book. It touches on some important issues in a fun, lighthearted way.

The Good Egg Activities and Comprehension Questions The Good Egg Activities and Comprehension Questions

I loved the art. It was also a nice concept and the message is pretty good in itself that sometimes you just have to let go but the text and the execution wasn't that great. I loved the first book in the series but this doesn't compare for me. The Good Egg is a positive role model for his willingness to help others, his attempt to remedy bad behavior of those around him, and mostly for his ability to step away from his comfort zone to prioritize his own well-being. He's courageous, determined to persevere on journey of self-discovery. He's also eager to forgive and learns to find positive in others and his situation. In this follow-up to Jory John and Pete Oswald’s popular picture book The Bad Seed, meet the next best thing: a very good egg, indeed! Why does the Good Egg get so stressed out when the other eggs misbehave? Do you get bothered by the activity and energy of those around you? What helps you keep calm and not get upset? Having read The Bad Seed last year, I was eager to give The Good Egg a try. I actually like this one a little more than its predecessor... mostly because I can really relate to the main character! While I thought the illustrations were cute, I wasn't completely sold on the story line (or the fact that the 'Good' Egg is any good at all). The Good Egg is a nicely illustrated book. I bought it from my son’s scholastic catalog without being able to read the inside, and I will be giving this book away.
