About this deal

Unfortunately, I think Oral-B and other manufacturers make it a little more complicated than it needs to be with all the different names/numbers and options. Two of the more cost effective models within the Oral-B range of electric toothbrushes, these two are among the most popular models available on the market today and either serve the vast majority of users very well. Aside from this the two brushes feel the same in hand, weigh the same and have the same warranty, they both come with a charging stand and 1 brush head in the box. Pro 2 2000 vs Pro 3 3000 A big improvement, it means you can go between charges for longer and works better for those who travel and are away from power. The Smart 5 5000 comes supplied with a more suitable holder too. It sits on a work surface rather than needing to be attached to a wall. It is our opinion is smarter and less unsightly. You just need to pop your phone in it, which takes a couple of seconds compared to the tens of seconds with the genius brush configuration. You phone then sits in portrait or landscape orientation and shows the on-screen timer.

A new magnetic charger means the brush can be recharged in as little as 3 hours, rather than the more typical 12. Below, is a list of models we have compared to one another, plus some that we have compared to their Sonicare equivalents. Over time you will learn how much pressure you need to apply and it will essentially become redundant for most within a few month’s. The Pro 3 3500 offers the features we regard as essential (a pressure sensor and a timer) at an affordable price. With either you have to power the brush on to change mode, but the Genius will remember the cleaning mode and start on this next time it is powered on, the 5000 does not. Whilst it does differ from one brush to another, to some extent I and the team here disagree about the importance.

The reality is that you could use any mode on the brush to clean your tongue just ending the clean sooner. Although the speed and number of oscillations will be different. Both come with a premium travel case and a 2+ week battery life. A visible pressure sensor, 2 minute timer and pacer are built-in too. iO Series vs Genius X Pro 2 2950 brush handles have a lithium-ion battery that offers 2 weeks of use on a full charge compared to approx 7 days of the Pro 760 As you move up the Oral-B range, the brushes become more expensive, but they do come with additional features and accessories. We regard these as “nice-to-have” rather than essential. Both brushes come with thestandard ‘Daily Clean’ mode. They both then have a Sensitive mode. It is only the Pro 3 3000 that has the ‘Whitening’ mode. There is no battery in the case, to charge the brush and anything connected via the USB cable the case has to be connected to mains power. What do we mean? Well in the box comes a smartphone holder with the Genius 9000. It has a suction cup on it that needs to attach to a mirror or wall in your bathroom. You put your smartphone in before brushing, stand in front of it and the app, camera, and brush work together to give you this data. Given that this icon only lights up when the mode is selected, it is hard to tell, but the Genius 9000 does offer a Tongue Cleaning mode that the Smart 6 does not. On the rear of the handle rather than raised plastic ridges, the 3000 has a more subtle dimpled surface.

Ultimately, all of the brushes will provide a very good clean to the teeth and gums if used correctly. A smaller, but relevant difference relating to the cleaning modes is that the motor in the Pro 2 2000 is a bit more powerful and actually offers more movements than the Pro 600.I am confident that the Genius X motor is more powerful. I think the Pro 5000 you might have has something in the region of 8,800 oscillations and either 20,000 or 40,000 pulsations. Electric toothbrushes are clinically proven to be superior to manual toothbrushes, providing benefits in removing more plaque for cleaner teeth and healthier gums. Oral-Belectric toothbrushes remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual brush, which is why they are recommended by UK dentists and hygienists. Oral-B electric rechargeable toothbrushes (from Pro 600 model upwards) also whiten teeth starting from day one by removing surface stains. Electric toothbrushes are suitable from ages 3+, with specific kids electric toothbrush models available, and are gentle on gums and suitable for sensitive teeth. Electric rechargeable toothbrushes come with replacement toothbrush heads, which should be replaced every three months. Power isn’t normally promoted or documented as it is a small part of the toothbrushing experience. More power doesn’t necessarily equal a better clean. Your total brushing time and technique have a big part to play. If so, this is because generally products are marketed by the broader product name, i.E Oral-B Pro 2 2000 rather than D20 for example. From what I can tell, the Oral-B Pro 2 2900 and Pro 2 2950N are the same thing. The difference appears to be that the 2900 is marketed and sold in the UK primarily, whilst the 2950N is sold within central Europe in countries like France, the Netherlands etc. Place these brushes side by side and it is almost impossible to tell the difference between each of them. ThePro 600 offers 8,800 oscillations and 20,0000 pulsations whilst the 2000 offers 9,900oscillations and 45,000 pulsations. The type and model number has a role to play. But, these can still be configured differently, for example, the number of cleaning modes on offer. So is it any clearer for people? 🤔

Will you be claiming the VAT back?

The Smart 6 travel case is better than some of the cheaper models. It is a white colour and is fairly robust.
