About this deal

Next week’s session will explore Maundy Thursday and the most basic heart questions we all ask when we suffer: “How am I going to get through this?” Unanswered prayers happen to everyone and can be challenging. But never forget God is a God who loves us. God is also a Holy and powerful God able to do anything. In the pain do not forget that. God will ultimately make all things new.

If possible briefly share a part of your own story that has caused you pain or disappointment, setting a tone from the start of honest vulnerability in the group. You might like to start with, “Personally I’m excited about this course because…”) Q. In God on Mute, Pete Greig talks about our tendency to “rush the resurrection”; to “leapfrog Holy Saturday”; to tidy up the mess too fast. What is it that makes waiting with unresolved questions such a hard thing to do?

Time From Placing Of Order To Dispatch

Q. Do we as a community lean too hard on one side of this equation, either focusing so much on hope that we aren’t honest about pain, or focusing so much on pain that we fail to have hope? How can we hold both hope and pain together? This book touches the sore spot of unanswered prayer. Rather than giving pat answers, Pete not only "goes there," he goes ALL the way "there!" He speaks to the pain, the doubt, the confusion, the unbelief, the anger... everything that rises up when prayers are not answered, when babies die, when spouses cheat etc. And he doesn't blame the person praying (Christians are so prone to blaming the victim)! Pete recognizes that oftentimes, God simply doesn't respond, for apparently no good reason!!

Creation has not yet been fully liberated from bondage. Life is inevitably doing to be difficult at times. A great book. The author is authentic and honest in sharing experiences of unanswered prayer in his own and others lives, which has resulted in a greater faith in God and closeness to Him. It is these stories that make it an engaging and easy read, whilst not skimping on theology and biblical references. This is the beginning of an amazing journey. The Prayer Course II videos provide useful teaching, but it is in small groups that this information turns into transformation through the power of personal discussion and prayer. Writing out of the pain of his wife's fight for her life but also the wonder of watching the prayer movement they founded touch many lives, Pete Greig wrestles with the dark side of prayer and emerges with a hard-won message of hope, comfort and profound biblical insight for all who suffer in silence. During these video sessions and small group discussions, the aim is to share together from personal experience and learn from one another, seeking God and asking how, together, we can learn and grow.
