He does this by recognizing Walter and then talking him into a client relationship. He starts this by asking Walt for a single dollar as a retainer, giving their conversation attorney-client privilege. CULVER CITY, CALIF. Breaking Bad has become a cultural icon that's already been referenced by more contemporary series. It also has no shame in its own homages to classic pieces of cinema. There's a strong affection for Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, which gets explicitly referenced by characters like Saul, but it also receives more hidden nods. Both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have put messages within their episode titles. The name of Breaking Bad's series finale, "Felina," is particularly significant.One possibility is that Walt didn't know that methylamine was a List I precursor, though this is unlikely, as it has been on the list since 1991, and Walt told Jesse that some of the items on the shopping list are difficult to find, so he would know; In real life, if Lydia sought emergency care immediately after learning she had been poisoned, it is likely she would have survived. According to Dave Trumbore, co-author of "The Science of Breaking Bad": since Walt told her the exact manner of her poisoning and she had been exposed to the ricin about 12 hours earlier, giving her plenty of time to seek medical attention, she could have survived anywhere from 36 to 72 hours without treatment. Speaking of Todd, it’s hard to imagine how Jesse Plemons’ performance could be any better. The writing of his dialogue has been superb as well — consistently thoughtful and exact, in the best Breaking Bad tradition. (“Yeah, kinda, if it catches the light just right I could see how you could think there’s a touch of blue, blue-green in there.”) His chilling “Shit happens” during “Dead Freight” hinted at a straight-up psycho, but Todd’s not straight-up (like his uncle). He’s a twisted psycho — and every now and then we get touches that echo facets of Walter. The fact that he kept the spider belonging to poor Drew Sharp, the kid on a bike he killed, reminded me of Walter cutting the crusts off his sandwiches in unconscious homage to Krazy 8, and in later seasons, dressing and comporting himself like Gus Fring. Todd is, as I’ve written in other recaps, the “good” surrogate son to Jesse’s “bad” one — “good” from Walter’s perspective, in that he wants to emulate and obey Walter. He even refers to him as “Mr. White.” Another route involves refluxing sulfamic acid with methanol for several hours, which yields ammonium methyl sulfate, which rearranges at high temperature to form methylamine sulfate.
