About this deal

Story- 4.5 I enjoy all of the arcs and sub arcs. They are woven together well and have satisfying resolutions. I took off half a star because every once in a while I feel impatient due to pacing, but it hasn't deeply affected enjoyability for me.

How are you even still reading my review ? If you have time to read this mess, you have time to read something way better, and way more enjoyable, without weird sentences.

About

This is it. The cultivation book I have been waiting for. While I like the genre I almost always feel like something is missing. Joy. Happiness. Cultivation is supposed to be taking in the energy of the world to perfect yourself. Why then does nobody seem happy in those stories? If you can see the majesty of the universe why can't you appreciate it's beauty? Gaining power for power's sake seems kind of stupid to me. Yes it is interesting for a while but there has to be more than that. This book is all about that other. This book is about a cultivator who realizes that he shouldn't live to cultivate. He should use his cultivation to live. He goes against the troupe of cultivators taking from the world to become stronger. This person wants to go off and live his life, be a farmer. He doesn't want to have anything to do with fighting to the death or killing monsters. He uses his chi to help the land and finds purpose in life. Balance.

They’re pretty great, aren’t they?” Yun Ren asked, tapping at the wonderful leather pouch that held the flat pane of crystal Yun Ren cherished. “But they’re pretty pricey too, yanno? And the ones that can record more than just static images are way more expensive.” Tie Delun looked bemused by the observation for a moment, and then, as he really thought about it, he started looking increasingly concerned. This book came out of nowhere, and I had a fantastic time with it. I have no idea who CasualFarmer is, but he knows how to write and engaging story and characters. Elder Xian taught me how to make this one,” Yun Ren said to the blade as he flexed his Qi, warming up the misty feeling in his gut until it felt like the sun’s rays. The sword rattled in approval. Style- 4.5 Strong voice. This, I think is what makes this story work. It's effective and has the occasional beautiful phrase. The most important part is that the characters feel SO distinct. Even without being told, I know in a few sentences whose POV I'm in. And each POV has its own type of themes and humor. Really well done. I think if CasualFarmer spent more time personally editing that it could be even cleaner and stronger which is why I left off hald a star. The characters are well meaning and diverse, and are such a pleasure to read that any absence makes me itchy to see what the missing character is up to. The plot, while being a fun twist on the genre, was not very interesting to me. There was barely any action, barely any drama, and the characters weren't interesting. Being a comedy and little else, it all came down to the humor. The beast’s eyes were fixed on the climb that sat before him, filled with determination for the journey to come. Thus, they had climbed the side of the mountains, been hounded ferociously by corporeal illusions, and Bi De was pushed to the limit by an Old Monster. The sword rattled happily as Yun Ren sat down beside it, staring up at the colours woven with illusions.
