About this deal

Character wise, I think it is clear I am going to say they were not developed enough. I did enjoy the individual characters and learning about them and secrets was enjoyable. However, more time needed to be given to introducing them at the beginning as I could not grasp who was who, especially when it came to the sisters.

Regardless, readers will relate to the rivalry, ambivalent feelings, and raw honesty. By the end, they become partners, with the power to forgive. This is a powerful story of growth, self-awareness, and genuine insight into family relationships. Bad Sister looks just like the type of book I enjoy. It literally looks like a psychological thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed Bad Sisters and would recommend it to anyone who likes ‘seduction, intrigue, rivalry – and murder.’ I have Divas (also by Rebecca Chance) on my bookshelf and can’t wait to read that now! Bad Sister is the first book that I have read by Sam Carrington. That will be remedied next year in my plan to catch up on books that I have fallen behind on. I can’t work out if is a series but at least one of the characters appeared in the earlier book.

Need Help?

Three sisters living with a dysfunctional mother. A family tragedy that they don't talk about has changed all of them—forever. How can they cope with something they don't discuss? Eva, their mother, has turned to drugs with her new husband, young Jess barely speaks, Natalie has an uncontrollable condition, and Teresa and Natalie do not get along. Teresa has escaped-and now Eva is throwing a graduation party/engagement party for Teresa and Luke. Even though they don't want to be there. Sharon Horgan as Eva Garvey, the eldest sister of the Garvey family. Protective of her younger sisters, having taken care of them after their parents' death, she is single, with her infertility having affected her past relationships. She comes into conflict with John Paul over his treatment of her sister Grace and niece Blánaid. Eva and John Paul are co-workers at an architectural firm, and further conflict arises when both apply for the same promotion Even though the story started off quite slow, it was still intriguing as I found myself needing to know why and how Connie's story connected to Stephanie's. It was revealed as a slow unravel throughout the book which was great as it definitely added to the suspense of the story. With every chapter that I read, the plot got more and more compelling and gripping. I found myself constantly guessing and read the second half of the book in one seating because I just couldn't put it down. In later years, during a large family party, Juno best friend to sister Natalue is also found dead on the island. Is there a connection between these deaths and are the right people being held to justice. Honestly, I loved this book! I really felt for all of the sisters and could understand them, while they annoyed me at the same time - in a good way, because you never knew who to trust. I loved the tension and suspense in this book - the sinister feeling that something was wrong. And, especially, I loved all the dark twists, turns and revelations. But, even though the chapters were titled by the time they took place in, I got really confused about the timelines sometimes, and I even had to start the book anew after the first six chapters because I had to untangle what was going on when.

It's not a bad book and it's a fast read but somehow I couldn't really connect with Connie, the protagonist. There are so many plotlines that it's really hard to focus and I became more interested in the book at about 60-70% when all those scattered plotlines started to connect. However, I did have some difficulties with parts of it, I felt that sometimes the parents were guilty of shaming Charise for some of her behaviour. Particularly, the episode with the visitor who took them out for a treat. That one was definitely a head-scratcher for me as an adult reader. Secondly, as other reviewers have already pointed out Charise's face blindness is mentioned in one vignette and then never mentioned again. The two wrestle and tumble, roll an inclusive set of neighborhood kids around in a giant inner tube, and search for treasure in local dumpsters. However, Daniel is often the victim of Charise’s impulsiveness and power grabs, and she experiences a mix of guilt, envy, and frustration as a result of her actions.JA Corrigan studied in London, completing a BA Humanities degree, majoring in Modern History and English Literature. The art style in this actually wasn't my favorite. It definitely got the job done and looked fine, but it didn't stand out as anything especially great or beautiful to me. I usually don't have any issues with that aspect of graphic novels, so the fact that it stood out as something I wasn't wild about felt a little weird to me. That's a very minor criticism though, as I did enjoy the novel overall. Bad Sister is a graphic novel written by Charise Mericle Harper and illustrated by Rory Lucey. From the day baby Daniel arrives, crying so loudly that it hurts Charise's ears and absorbing her mother's attention, Charise starts growing into her role of bad sister.

I recently had the opportunity to hear Rebecca Chance speak at the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival in New Orleans, and walked directly to the bookshop right after the panel ended. She was - in a word - hysterical. I'm in the minority of people who didn't like this book. It was such a slow burn start that I was really bored. Not only was I bored, but I was very confused. The timelines switching between present, past, and more distant past between the three sisters was a lot to wrap the head around at first. There were a lot of questions that I didn't really get answered. Claes Bang as John Paul ("JP") Williams, Grace's husband, Blánaid's father, and a co-worker of Eva. A manipulative and abusive man, he exerts complete control over his wife and daughter's lives and comes into conflict with the rest of the Garvey sisters. He is recently deceased at the beginning of the series, but the circumstances of his death are uncertain. The sisters shared a secret from their childhood, the two married sisters were not keen on their spouses and the unmarried sister coveted her sister's rugby player. The eldest sister, married to the MP, ran a successful business; the middle sister had a TV cooking show, despite her inability to cook; and the youngest sister had been banished from Hollywood when her gay boyfriend decided to come out. The series received a positive reception from critics and won a 2022 Peabody Award. It received a leading twelve nominations at the 19th Irish Film & Television Awards, winning four including Best Drama, and received the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series at the 2023 BAFTA Awards alongside two additional wins. The series received four nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Horgan.

Apple TV's newest series Bad Sisters adapts the Flemish show Clan, following the Garvey family before and after the death of one of the sisters' husbands. The man - John Paul - had been verbally abusive to all of them, as well as condescending and controlling toward his wife and daughter. The series follows the sisters' attempts to kill John Paul in one timeline, with insurance agent Thomas Claffin trying to prove the unnatural manner of his death in another. Bad Sister, 2016 American television film starring Alyshia Ochse, Devon Werkheiser, and Ryan NewmanWhen flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is an absolute joy of a show. Did I just call a show about a group of sisters trying to kill their brother-in-law a joy? Yes, yes I did. It’s a high stakes feeling show without actually being high stakes, so it’s perfect during our very stressful current times. What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder.
