About this deal

The bass is deep and warm yet can be ramped up to a punchier and booming sound. The mids are full, not muddy and the highs clear and crisp, never shrill or piercing. However, if you're looking for a more modern speaker with features like AirPlay, Google Cast, voice assistants and Spotify built, you'll have to look somewhere else - the Aiwa Exos-9 is the modern equivalent of an old-school boombox. Design

If you want something more rugged and waterproof, you should buy some other speaker (JBL Boombox, for example). Unfortunately, you will never get the same loudness and sound quality with JBL Boombox (and you will have to pay more). A few words about the manufacturer The speaker can play music. Its function is thus described quite clearly and largely unambiguously. However, it is equipped with some interesting extras that we naturally wanted to take a closer look at. Yes! Volume, or how loud a speaker is, is measured in decibels. Simply put, the louder the speaker, the higher the decibel value is. What is important to note about decibel measurement is that it is measured on a logarithmic scale. This means that for every increase of 10 decibels, the sound is ten times louder!

Big sound for those who need the extra volume

Keep in mind that battery life is also affected by the loudness and how frequent you change your music. Bluetooth connections also affect battery life, so you may want to connect your device directly. Bose SoundTouch 30 and Exos-9 have similar design and size (but SoundTouch 30 is much heavier). They both support Bluetooth wireless streaming and that’s about it when it comes to similarities. And if your connecting device doesn’t support aptX®, your Exos-9 has the basic A2DP standard protocol and supports the AAC and SBC audio codecs. So, no concerns there. No problems connecting No, is the answer. In keeping with the nostalgic design look, you’ve only got the controls on the speaker. There is no smartphone app to control the speaker.

The bass is powerful and punchy but controlled. The mids are very detailed and dynamic, and highs are perfectly clear. You will get this kind of neutral sound signature when the EQ is off. If you want bassier sound, or if you want to emphasize the voices and midrange, you can play with EQ presets and those adjustable EQ bands (+/- 12dB) and find the type of sound that you like. Exos-9 is also very loud. It’s one of the loudest Bluetooth speakers on the market (max SPL is rated at 100+dB) which makes it great for parties. The distortion is almost nonexistent and the bass stays controlled and it doesn’t overpower the midrange even at full volume.

Considering the price, we have expected some nice additional equipment but you will have to buy all the accessories and equipment separately. Aiwa offers a carrying bag for Exos-9 and a r e mote . You can also buy the extended battery (it doubles the playtime) if you want. Specs Aiwa Exos-9 Specifications The loudest Bluetooth speaker in the JBL PartyBox series and potentially the loudest Bluetooth speaker on the consumer market (there are currently no trust-worthy dB measurement comparisons between the two). The JBL follows the popular JBL Boombox in JBL’s new generation of Bluetooth speakers. While JBL might be late to the party, they’ve certainly used that time to create one of the loudest portable Bluetooth speakers on the market. Not only is this speaker loud, but it comes with RGB LED lighting for full party mode. Battery Another annoyance is that the touch-sensitive buttons on the top are not always responsive so you may have to press them more than once to change a setting.

However, if you can get over the design and are looking for a loud and quality sounding speaker keep reading. This is not so bad if you only want to pair speakers for the occasional party, but if you want a permanent setup, then you are in for a world of frustration. Resetting regularly would be a pain. I’d look elsewhere if you want permanent pairing. To Share or Not to Share is the QuestionWe broke this list into two distinct sections: large, loud Bluetooth speakers and the loudest portable Bluetooth section. While we’ve already explained the differences, we separated these products because many of the large Bluetooth speakers on this list don’t fit into what the average consumer is after. Our lightweight section is a more versatile selection that also makes sense buying as your daily driver of Bluetooth speakers at home. Why Trust Us? Exos-9 can be connected to different audio sources (phones, tablets, PCs) via Bluetooth or via AUX input. The speaker features support for A2DP ( Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AAC, aptX, and SBC audio codecs. It also supports fast pairing thanks to the NFC feature (it can be used for pairing with NFC-enabled Android devices). It is also possible to pair two Exos-9 speakers together thanks to the LINK feature. Exos 9 comes in a large illustrated box. Inside the box, you will find your speaker, large lithium-ion battery (it’s replaceable and rechargeable), power/charging cable, auxiliary audio cable, user manual, and 2-year warranty. You can choose the double stereo mode (LR + LR) where each speaker reproduces the same sound. Alternatively, choose the separated-stereo mode (one speaker acts as the left (L) and the other as the right (R).

Audio drivers – Look for speakers which have at least 4 or 5 audio drivers. Dual-coil subwoofers that measure more than 5 inches are recommended. So, if you’re not into nostalgia and prefer the lean modern look, you may not want to read any more of this review. While the Exos-9 plays in stereo, its soundstage is quite narrow because the woofers are so close together. There are some speaker manufacturers that use digital signal processing (DSP) to make the sound wider, but there’s nothing like that going on with the Aiwa.

A handy timesaving feature is the Exos-9 remembers the last eight devices paired, and automatically connects when in range and powered on. Don’t want Bluetooth or NFC? It’s strange really because there is the mini-USB port for firmware updates, and it is a wireless speaker. If you’re looking for total control from your connected device, the Aiwa Exos-9 is not for you.
