As mentioned, Chapters 2 through 4 explore the three components of the WHM, i.e. cold training, breath exercise, and commitment building, respectively. These chapters describe the science of how these three elements generally (as opposed to a later chapter that describes studies in more depth) act upon the body. The commitment section describes a number of arduous feats such as climbing Kilimanjaro in a T-shirt and shorts, but also describes the role of diet (with particular emphasis on the fast-5 diet which is similar to, but not precisely, what Hof came to practice organically.) I am continuously searching for ways to expand my mind, body and spirit—Wim Hof and The Way of The Iceman have done just that! He shows us that human potential is limitless and we are ALL capable of anything we set our minds to.”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Apparently, for health reasons. Research into the Wim Hof method is minimal even now, 5 years after this book was published. What is known, without a doubt, is this: that Hof can increase his metabolic rate by ~300%, keeping him warm in freezing temperatures, and that he can control his autonomic nervous system, which was believed to be impossible, thus giving him resistance on demand to a specific endotoxin. These are impressive feats, to be sure, but increasing the metabolic rate to keep us warm is trivial--nowadays we can just wear more clothes or turn on the air-con--and the practical consequences of controlling the autonomic nervous system remain completely speculative. Take cold showers daily. Start by taking a warm shower like normal then having a short cold shower. Build up to just taking a cold shower 5+ minutes without a warm shower first. Work on keeping your breathing calm and regular during the cold shower. Becoming the Iceman: Pushing Past Perceived Limits (10th Becoming the Iceman: Pushing Past Perceived Limits (10th

The writing is really really bad, as the other reviewers have already pointed out. I almost turned down the book after the first few chapters, but kept on.... and I'm glad I did. As poor as the writing is, the stories of Wim Hof and Justin are inspiring, really inspiring. I motivated me to incorporate cold showers in my daily routine and enjoy the numerous health benefits that Wim Hof is an extreme example of (I mean, 39 bpm resting heart rate at more than 50? Controlling the autonomic nervous system consciously? That's something everyone should strive for).

Great book about the Ice Man Wim Hof. I recently did a workshop to learn the breathing techniques used in this book, followed by an ice bath. It was out of my comfort zone but that's why I tried. I got chills, they're multiplying....Nope, nothing to do with Danny Zuko but Richard Kuklinski (aka The Iceman) greased a hell of a lot of people, and this is a riveting, chilling account of his life and crimes. Unfortunately, neither Wim nor Justin Rosales are good writers, and the quality of this book was nothing short of disappointing. The only reason I even gave it two stars was because of how impressive Wim's accomplishments are. Readers complain they would have wanted more concrete advice from Wim Hof besides questionably messianic claims that one can tap into one’s “cardiovascular system” or “immune system” (note how it is never clear when and how one boosts or suppresses said system). Here’s the thing. You will never get anything more concrete from the Man Himself. At this stage in his name brand development, you won’t get anything more either even if you sign up for one of the courses in Poland. You will get good training and oversight from one of his branded trainers, and the odd appearance of the Man himself for a long messianic and iconoclastic monologue. Don’t me wrong. Hof is a sincere, generous, inspiring, eccentric, disorganized genius. But if it weren’t for the marketing know how of his son, and — I will insist again — the very useful details provided by people like Justin, his teachings might have been lost on the world. There’s a lot of front matter in this book (two forwards, a prologue, and an introduction), but the book more-or-less consists of seven chapters. The first of these is a mini-bio of Hof. It describes a fascinating event in Hof’s youth in which he was exposed to cold, as well as his travels to India in an attempt to find a yoga teacher. [As is the case with most people who come to India seeking to find that quintessential guru—i.e. a half-naked, weather-beaten, and forehead paint-streaked classical guru—he found that he had to wade through a sea of charlatans and shysters while never finding the true masters who are likely hidden away in caves in the Himalayas. Note: this is not to say that one can’t find excellent yoga instruction in India but it’ll likely be by someone fully-clothed and not someone smoking pot on a ghat in Varanasi.] This resulted in Hof taking an experimental approach in which he studied the effects of various activities on himself (and such experimentation is what he advocates for others as well.) It should be noted that Hof didn’t invent this method from scratch—e.g. the breath component is based on Tibetan Tummo meditation.

Iceman: What we know 3 decades after his discovery Ötzi the Iceman: What we know 3 decades after his discovery

That was the problem. The only way he could deal with their loss, if he inadvertently killed Barbara, was to kill them. That was how Richard had dealt with all his problems since he was a child. Justin's chapters are perhaps not just banal interludes between the interesting events - they are the proof of the veracity of the principles underlying Wim Hof's approach. If you skip the Justin chapters then, like an eager young student who is so impatient to become a master that he skips over the boring training exercises, you miss the first lesson and never progress. If you are looking for practical knowledge that you would like to apply on yourself, for the betterment of your physical health and character, then this is a real gem.Stopped after about a third of the book. This book is bad. Not badly written, not badly constructed - but upsetting, because it takes on the self-portrayal of a convicted murderer uncritically, almost naively. The result is a narrative that cries out for a Tarantino film adaptation and could inspire fascination, especially in younger male readers, where dismay would be more appropriate. However the book would have been better off as a leaflet. It's entirety can be summarised in a few sentences, which I'll do here to save you the effort: It is not a writing prodigy, but the novel is creepy and a brutal story about the life of a serial killer and his dealings with the Italian mafia in New York.

Welcome to the Official Wim Hof Method Website

This book feels very very bloated and there's so much that should have been cut out. What information we do get just feels very cliche. Even if it was important or novel, I didn't feel anything because I was bored to tears by the endlessness of some chapters that never go anywhere. To better understand the natural processes that have preserved Ötzi over five millennia—particularly exposure to the elements and the actions of microbes—researchers at the Institute of Mummy Studies are now analyzing the naturally preserved remains of a chamois, a kind of goat-antelope, discovered in summer 2020 in the same region as Ötzi. Though only a few hundred years old, its state of preservation is similar to the Iceman’s, and scientists are varying the humidity and temperature the animal’s remains are stored at to better understand how those factors impact preservation. They’re also studying its microbial community, both inside and out. “We know there are bacteria and fungi that can survive the cold temperatures, so maybe if you change something, they can start to grow again,” Zink says. A pokaždé dodá, že lituje, že to neudělal... To teda mohl říct jenom jednou, že otce toužil zabít, ale nikdy to neudělal... The 1st of this book's 3 prologues quotes Jiddu Krishnamurti who said that "the cessation of thought is the awakening of intelligence". This quotes tells you lots about Wim Hof's pretensions: so long as you don't think too hard about what he says, he'll sound legit.

Iceman: How the Wim Hof Method Creates R… The Way of the Iceman: How the Wim Hof Method Creates R…

The writing in this book seems to me very basic in it’s approach and logic, however it gave me what I needed in terms of helping me to understand what the Wim Hof method was all about. Prior to reading the book I didn’t understand the reasons why you would want to do the breathing and the science behind the benefits of cold ice baths and showers. stars rounded up. This was my second true crime book by this author within the past month and I’ve really enjoyed them both. I got through this in two days which is very fast for me. It’s the story of Richard Kuklinski, aka The Iceman, an extremely brutal and violent man. The stuff this guy did is grotesque and gruesome in the extreme and is sometimes outlined in graphic detail and is therefore not for the faint-hearted. So there’s my trigger warning - those of you who don’t like blood, guts and gore should avoid this book. Plus there’s a considerable amount of domestic violence as his poor wife Barbara and his kids often suffered from his foul moods and temper whilst at the same time being unaware of his life of crime. Future research could focus on the functionality of Özti’s body, including proteins, lipids, and enzymes found in his tissues that may reveal information about his immune system. For now, however, protein analysis of ancient samples remains a very complex process. Also looking at how he was caught, I have to admire the size of the balls on the detectives that went after Kuklinski, and particularly on Polifrone who got to chum up to him undercover, continuing to meet with him even knowing from the phone taps that the Ice Man was planning on killing him. That must have been some high-octane nightmare fuel... Still, Stanley frequently had sex with Anna whether she wanted to or not. He considered himself quite the ladies' man and was often on Anna without notice or warning or any kind of foreplay: wham, bam, it was over.

In addition, through Richard Kuklinski's relationship with the mob, we get to know many gangsters and their lives.
