About this deal

I find these are a real sleeper. They are very easy to modify but sound very good unmod'd once broken in. Several others besides myself have modified them and discovered a real keeper in these headphones.

Superlux HD668B Review (vs Audio Technica M50 and Superlux Superlux HD668B Review (vs Audio Technica M50 and Superlux

For the price, the imaging and separation that the 668b offers are incredible. Instruments can be differentiated from each other with clarity, their location and the distance between them on the stage can be perceived. There is also excellent articulation between voices and instruments. In short: overall, the HD668B is much more balanced, but the HD681F sounds more natural if not for the slightly shiny highs. The HD681F is more suited for live music while the HD668B is balanced and fits any kind of music, with the exception of energetic music.I have the HD668b, that is why I am putting my comment on here. This pair is really awesome for its price. <– You article got me pulled the trigger stars: The product is good/very good, but not outstanding/special enough to get any of my two awards. ["Thumbs Up"] Poor build quality as far as cable connector quality comes - cable that runs from headphones to connector went bad after a while, no easy way to fix this other than removing their cable connector assembly completely and resoldering new cable inside the headphones thus making cable permanent. Vocals are a touch more recessed on the DT990 Pro, however, it does have a slight edge in tonal accuracy. The DT990’s vocals are a little richer and vibrant, where the HD668B is somewhat dry. It’s really amazing how similar these headphones sound, the biggest differentiator is the treble. On the DT990 Pro, the treble has more sparkle but it’s also more strident and fatiguing. Comfort-wise, the N650 has softer earpads but they sit more on the ears rather than around the ears like on the HD668B. Both headphones are initially comfortable but I find my ears need a rest with either one after 1 – 2 hours.

but headstage is still my first priority, just that sometimes the serious handicap on bass on K702 is making me wanting it more. is HD600 a better choice than 650 if i wanted more LF and still able to listen to orchestra music? With classical and melodic music, the voices and instruments sound organic and with a hint of forwardness. This also shows a well controlled bass execution that does not muddy the mids. Hey, thanks for this nice review, couldnt find any other real review@intrawebz so wanted to ask – how good or bad would these be as monitoring headphones? Im in search for budget production headphones, cant afford monitor speakers yet. I was looking@ Audio Technica ATH-M50 before i found these. Comparable? There is an early sub-bass roll-off, so these headphones do not extend that well in that range. However, there is a good amount of mid bass, it has punch shown on sounds like drums and on EDM song basslines. In "Vivere" in particular, the large number of instruments in the song can be heard clearly, with a very pleasant bass guitar which is always present behind the vocals without interfering. I have written a review in danish at the danish head-fi-forum, which is called Hoved-fi.dk, and I'll now do my best to translate it into english:

Superlux HD668B: Budget-Friendly Studio Samson SR850 vs. Superlux HD668B: Budget-Friendly Studio

Although I don't think it has the class and refinement to compete with the HD600, Koss ESP950, K701, but perhaps the 668B strikes a wonderful synergy with your music and amplifier.Mids are not pronounced and are covered up by the harsh sounding Treble. This can be fixed with an equalizer or mods. I have done several things to modify the 668B and feel I have raised their performance level quite a bit. Now I listen to only two headphones – my HifiMan HE-5LE and Superlux HD 668B. Sibilance is very noticeable in "Come rain or come shine" (Sinatra live at Carnage Hall) when the trumpets and cymbals sound together. This also happens in "Teach me tonight."
