About this deal

Again, while the caged handle doesn’t bother me, I recognize that people used to lifting with traditional fixed dumbbells might not like the feeling. It might take some getting used to. But, it’s a small sacrifice to make considering the big value you get from these. A Little Noise These dumbbells are listed as "adjustable," but they only adjust to three weights. When we weighed each dumbbell in the Lab, the minimum weight per dumbbell was 2.2 pounds (although the manufacturer lists it as 2.3 pounds), the medium weight was 3.4 pounds, and the maximum weight was 4.4 pounds (although the manufacturer lists it as 4.5 pounds). But we still found them super easy to adjust while you exercise—simply twist open the ends of the dumbbells to add or remove the small weight bars found inside to increase or decrease the weight. Unlike most of the adjustable dumbbells on our list, you have to physically screw on and off the weight increments, which a bit more time consuming, but overall easy and intuitive to do. The set comes with a carry case, which is great if you want to take them on the go. But to store the dumbbells in the carry case, you do need to remove all plates and collars off the barbells—which means you have to reassemble your weights with each use. Thankfully, after requesting it for years, they’ve brought out a knurled handle option for their Commercial Pro Series. These are my personal favorite, but they are more expensive and may not be what most want.

You can adjust each dumbbell from 10 to 50 pounds, in 10-pound increments, which is great if you're only looking to replace five sets of weights. But if you're a beginner who wants to progress at a slower pace, we recommend FitRx's Adjustable Dumbbells that adjust in 2.5-pound increments from 5 to 52.5 pounds. With that being said, we did find this ProForm pair to be super simple to adjust with just the turn of a handle. There is a sound of metal on metal since they're not one piece, solid dumbbells. Even though they are strong and durable, you still have to be more careful with them, and you certainly don't want to drop them If at all possible. The closed handle design is a bit restrictive. There are certain exercises that are more difficult to do, like overhead tricep extensions. Also, performing certain exercises with single dumbells are challenging. Easy and comfortable to hold, this pair offers a soft cushioned grip that felt secure in both dry and wet hands during testing. We also appreciate the dumbbell's durability and think that they'll last years in your at-home gym—making them well worth the rather hefty investment. The Bowflex SelectTech dumbbell could be better for beginners who want something simple to work with as well as lifters who really want to use the weights in all the ways you would a fixed dumbbell. The lifter who makes time a priority may also be pleased with the Bowflex adjustable dumbbell because turning the dials is faster than removing and adding a pin. Benefits of Adjustable DumbbellsIf you want affordable adjustable dumbbells, the Bowflex pair are a great option. Although they don't get very heavy, they are a great option for beginners and those who do not need more than 52.5 lbs per hand. Although these adjustable dumbbells are shaped quite unconventionally, they're very storable given their square shape, which we think makes them worth it for those with smaller spaces. Although I’ve had mine fall out during dumbbell snatches one time, it was only because I didn’t place it all the way in. Otherwise, this method for holding the weights hasn’t caused me any issues.

The papababe Adjustable Dumbbells are super space-saving due to the included connector bar that lets you configure them into a barbell but they are difficult to adjust between exercises. If you're looking for portable weights for travel, the Deiris Travel Weights are hollow and can be filled with water to adjust the weight. The BowFlex SelectTech adjustable dumbbell is easier to operate because you adjust a dial to change the weights. The dials can be turned in either direction. You have to make sure the numbers are the same on both ends of the weight before removing it from the stand. You can build muscle and get stronger with adjustable dumbbells. Besides the way they look, they work the same way as traditional fixed dumbbells, and they provide adequate resistance for you to train the working muscles to the point that they are stimulated or even to the point of failure. Adjustable dumbbells can be a great option for people who want to build muscle. How many dumbbells do adjustable dumbbells replace? The handle on the Elite Series has a straight, cylindrical feel. It’s more boxed in than the Sport Series. The Elite Series is still made in the USA and is one of the best value adjustable dumbbells on the market, in my opinion.
