12 -100 vs 12 -200 - Digital Photography Review Oly 12 -100 vs 12 -200 - Digital Photography Review

If you are interested in the lens’ IS capabilities for video, you’ll be happy to know that it performs really well. Of course, you won’t get the same amount of compensation as with sensor stabilisation but fixed shots are pretty stable and there isn’t any visible jittering. Close focus has always been an Olympus strength. This lens can do near macro very well. Let’s compare it to the 12-40 which has me leaving my macro lens behind more often than not. The Google Pixel 6 may not be the latest Google smartphone any more, but it might still be the best value I like that the rings (focus and zoom) are metal, not rubber. They do not show wear, which I think will be helpful when (or if) I sell the lens. Metal focus and zoom rings. The 12-100 is clearly sharper and better built and weather resistant, but the 14-140 II is unusually sharp for a superzoom. It's not on the 12-100 level, but it's better than any ILC superzoom, 10x or higher, that I know of. Nothing on Canon or Nikon is as good IMO. And it's probably also the smallest of the superzoom bunch.Holoholo55 Do be warned, Walter - the camerasize dimensions displayed are not always particularly accurate. The Olympus 12-100mm f4 M.Zuiko PRO is a lightweight and high-quality covers a focal length range that previously required the help of a second lens to achieve at this level of quality. It features a constant f4 aperture and a minimum working distance of just 1.5cm for extreme close-ups! It is, a dust, splash, freeze-proof and Olympus have used their Z Nano Coatings that significantly reduces flare and ghosting. Take a look at these next three images. This is the beauty of the 12-100. One lens, one camera, and this kind of flexibility. Yes you can get a superzoom camera…or other super zoom lenses…but they are slower, consumer build quality, and rarely produce files at the level of this lens. The only down side is that this lens is NOT parfocal. I wish it were. That means when you change zoom, you have to refocus your image. If this lens were parfocal, that would have been a huge benefit overall for stills and for video. 12mm 35mm 100mm

Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO - review / test report Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO - review / test report

The resolution of the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12–100 mm f/4 IS PRO was additionally tested on RAW files generated by the Olympus E-M5 Mark II camera and below we present the results in the frame centre and on the edge. They confirm precisely the results we got by analyzing RAWs from the E-PL1. So this is metal construction with a manual focus clutch as in usual Olympus fashion. It has a pedal hood and extends when you zoom. Surprisingly I didn’t really encounter any zoom creep. The lens has image stabilization built in as well. When combined with the in-body stabilization, it is apparently 6.5 stops. That’s pretty amazing. I didn’t do much testing of that to be perfectly honest. The majority of my work is tripod based. However the switch turns off ALL image stabilization including the sensor when in the off position. You can’t choose either or. They work together as a unit. There is also a Lens Function button.

The Olympus 12-100mm lens reduces distortion well, particularly at longer focal lengths like 18mm and longer. However, on the other hand, the corners at 12mm, have the most barrel distortion, albeit it’s not considerable; it’s still less than 0.5 percent. Bokeh Weather sealed, excellent build quality, amazing IS, good aperture speed, excellent focal lengths, conservative filter size (72mm), comfortable weight and size, great close focus…what else does someone need? Honestly, this lens is a winner. I haven’t bought my own copy yet though. I rented this one for a while. I just love the 12-40, and usually I don’t need more than that. The size of the 12-40 is perfect in my opinion. I might have had a different opinion if this was a 12-100 F/2.8 of the same size. I also much prefer the close focus ability of the 12-40 better as well. I just felt the working distance and magnification fared better on my typical subjects. This lens has been kitted with a number of incredibly beneficial features that elevate the lens from a standard to a pro-worthy lens. It has built-in 5-axis Sync Image stabilisation of up to 6.5 EV steps compensation. Olympus have used their Z Nano Coatings that significantly reduces flare and ghosting. If that wasn't enough, speed is ensured thanks to a fast and precise autofocus system that allows you to capture still or moving subjects with the highest clarity and definition. The hood’s full, anodized aluminum ring threads easily onto the lens, and the ring’s inside threads allow you to screw on a filter or attach a lens cap to protect the lens.
