About this deal

Whether or not the fiftieth year is meant, the phrase “the acceptable year” means the time when it would be acceptable to God to proclaim such a message of deliverance. The gospel assures us that now is the time when men may come to God, be delivered from their sins, and be redeemed. To open the blind eyes, To bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, And them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house. Christ led a host of captives (his church) through the agency of the Holy Spirit who gifted certain men with divine inspiration. Thus empowered, they could preach to all slaves of sin the true message of liberty, and lead them for Christ into light and liberty as captives ofChrist. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed and commissioned me To bring good news to the humble and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] the brokenhearted, To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives And freedom to prisoners,

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. The “proof” that Christ preached to people in hell, is thought to be Peter's statement that Christ "went and preached to the spirits in prison" (1Peter 3:19). However this is an anachronism, because the time of this preaching is clearly stated as "in the days of Noah". Peter is referring to Christ preaching through Noah to a sinful world (1Peter 3:19). 2 What is the Captivity?During His days on earth, Jesus was concerned primarily with those who were enslaved by Satan. They were prisoners of Satan in a spiritual war. Millions of people today are Satan’s captives. They are under his influence. They may be captives of habits, attitudes, and lifestyles that they cannot control. You may be one of them. The spirit of the sovereign LORD is upon me, because the LORD has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners,

to open the eyes of the blind, to bring the bound and them that sit in darkness out of bonds and the prison-house.The Spirit of the LORD God has taken control of me! The LORD has chosen and sent me to tell the oppressed the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, and to announce freedom for prisoners and captives.

For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. Here, Jesus refers primarily to being downtrodden and bruised by others. We are broken by their oppression and, in a sense, are enslaved by them. What they have done to us captures us and our attention. We must be set free from the oppresssion and the oppressors. How many times have you felt downtrodden and broken? The circumstances of life have taken their toll. You don’t know whether or not you can get up and go again. Just remember that Jesus identifies with you in every moment of brokenness. He understands.

Let us alone! What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are — the Holy One of God!” to open blind eyes and to bring out those who are bound from their cells, and those sitting in darkness from prison.

Strong's 7307: Wind, breath, exhalation, life, anger, unsubstantiality, a region of the sky, spiritThe Spirit of the Lord GOD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners; captivity..." — Christ led captivity captive in that God, through the redemption in Christ, released sinners from the domain of darkness, Satan’s kingdom, and transferred them into Christ’s kingdom.
