About this deal

This was a well-written and fast-paced exciting read. A fantastic debut novel full of mystery and suspense, real world issues, and relatable characters. I thought the ending was surprising and satisfying. I can't wait for more from Laura Marshall! You or that person has reached the maximum friend limit. As of May 2022, that limit is 5,000 friends. You can remove one of your friends to send a friend request. Your current significant other could be questioning your devotion and trying to bust you. This sometimes occurs when jealous people want to “prove” your loyalty or test to see what you’d do when confronted by suggestive situations. Kiang, Jessica (21 September 2017). Friend Request: The most addictive psychological thriller you

I've always been interested in reading about social media in fiction. There doesn't seem to be a plethora of options to choose from, however. So, when I saw this title, "Friend Request" I knew immediately that I had to read it. In addition, this is a debut novel! This author seems to me as if she has been writing all her life. When it seems like all psychological thrillers start to run together and sound like one in the same, Laura Marshall has an original and authentic voice. I wouldn't hesitate to read anything that she writes. narration pull in the narrator really did a fabulous job! However the editing was a bit sloppy, I can’t ever remember reading a book where I heard the narrator clear their throat, and that did happen in this book also a few lines were repeated, clearly this is not the narrator‘s fault, I was just surprised...If you're in one or more of the following situations, you can't send someone a Facebook friend request: She stares at me dispassionately from behind my computer screen. I’ve not felt her cool gaze for over twenty-five years, not been the recipient of that look, which tells you she’s sizing you up, not in an unpleasant way, but appraising you, understanding more of you than you want the world to know. I wonder if she ever realised what I had done to her. Louise has always known that if the truth ever came out, she could stand to lose everything. Her job. Her son. Her freedom. Maria's sudden reappearance threatens it all, and forces Louise to reconnect with everyone she'd severed ties with to escape the past. But as she tries to piece together exactly what happened that night, Louise discovers there's more to the story than she ever knew. To keep her secret, Louise must first uncover the whole truth, before what's known to Maria--or whoever's pretending to be her--is known to all. I find I can’t look at her for long, and my eyes roam around the kitchen, wanting something mundane to fix on, a break from this bewildering new reality. I get up and make a coffee, gaining comfort from the ritual of putting the smooth shining pod into the machine, pressing the tip of my finger onto the button in the precise way I always do and warming the milk in the frother.

She thinks of her comfortable life. Her little family.....just her and Henry. Is that comfortable life being threatened....because of a friend request? As she thinks of her life the same sentence keeps running through her head "Maria Weston wants to be friends with me". Actually, I wasn't too happy with the way "grand finale" was resolved, so easily and kind of unlikely. In Friend Request, Louise Williams receives a requst from a friend from long ago. The problem is this friend is dead - or is she? Further, Louise and her clique were complicit in this girl's death while they were in high school. It is a secret they all have shared for a decade, a secret that now threatens to come to light. Louise is the type of character that I find really fascinating in fiction because we don't often see them portrayed well. She's spineless, insecure, self-centered, cowardly, and horribly flawed, and yet, because it's narrated in first person, we get to see all of the mental gymnastics she performs to try to make herself out as the good person, even when she's doing terrible things. And when she receives a friend request on Facebook from a classmate long thought dead, all of the dark secrets of her own personal Pandora's box come flying out as we slowly figure out what happened on the last night that she saw her ex-friend Maria, and what is at stake for her now, as an adult.Louise Williams is a 40-something single mother of an adorable 4 year old boy. She is a reserved, quiet type that prefers to look at the world from the outside in. Especially from Facebook. Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way, but professional modeling headshots are a dead giveaway for a fake profile. Louise, receives a friend request from a woman she bullied in high school. The only problem is it’s been 25 years and the woman died on the night of their senior prom.

Friend Request (2017)". Rotten Tomatoes. Archived from the original on 4 January 2021 . Retrieved 3 January 2021. We know there's something that Louise feels guilty about, something to do with Maria that happened in High School in 1989. What would life have been like if she'd made a different choice then, not just for her, but for everyone around her?" Fake Facebook friends requests can come for a variety of reasons — some harmless, some malicious. These are some of the types of bad actors you’re likely to encounter in your request notifications:The story then brilliantly alternates between 1989 and 2016, which the author does quite effectively. It leaves you with a chill down your spine. Mine still tingles. I saw that some people didn't like this book because it was really slow and I totally sympathize with that. Even though this book wasn't particularly long, it took forEVER to read because so much of it was build-up (and the pay-off really wasn't as satisfying as it could have been). That said, I can be all about slow-paced books if they are immersive enough, and FRIEND REQUEST is as much a fascinating character study about the cruelty of teenage girl cliques, as it is a murder mystery. Parts of it really reminded me of Megan Abbott, who also writes quite prolifically on the intense and dark dynamics of teen girls at their worst. Obviously, the 1989 parts were my favorites. She escapes and learns that Marina killed herself in a nearby factory. Tyler finds Laura, but Kobe kills him. After Laura reaches the dead end, Kobe gets killed by the swarm of wasps. Laura finally found Marina's burned corpse and, after staring at her laptop, the corpse lunges at her. So when Louise receives a Facebook friend request from Maria in 2016, she’s horrified. Because Maria died more than twenty-five years ago. Much like scammers, investigators will sometimes use fake friend requests to learn more about you, as well as see information that you’d normally restrict as “friends only.”

Louise does not miss her school days, the nasty, vindictive bitchiness. She has done her best to move on from her past. She has a son now, recently divorced and she is determined to focus on her child. Louise is a middle-aged, single mother of one young son. Being able to work from home, she likes to take breaks to keep up with her Facebook account... not that she has many friends. Today she has a new friend request ... from Maria Weston. Maria and Louise were friends once in high school, but they didn't remain friends for long. Louise can't understand why Maria would reach out to her now... especially as Maria has been dead for 25 years. When she receives a Facebook friend request from Maria Weston, a young girl who died during their school leavers dance Louise panics. Does someone know her secrets? And how far are they willing to go? It was a fast paced read and the end was a twist that I hadn't predicted. Why then just a 3 star rating? The book just didn't capture me like I thought it would. Like I said, it had promise but it fell a bit flat for me. I simply didn't feel for anything positive for Louise as the main character. I found her whiny and weak and at times even annoying. MY VIEWS: Firstly, this is an amazing debut novel. I read it in one sitting, totally mesmerized and enthralled. Laura Marshall has taken two topics, common to most of our lives, and written a deliciously twisted psychological thriller that had my heart pounding and my nails dug into my palms.

Thank you to NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing and Laura Marshall for an advanced copy to read in exchange for an honest review. This goes double for profiles with provocative profile pictures. If it looks like a professionally lit and shot photo of a person in a sexy pose, ignore the request (unless, of course, you’re friends with several models in real life). If you’ve been using Facebook for years like most people, you’re probably familiar with the insane amount of notifications that can hit you at once. You’ll see things like upcoming birthdays, events from your groups and a plethora of other random activities from people you know.
