This ‘angel of death’ can be distinguished by her ghostly wail, which is said to reverberate throughout the castle. The workhouse closed in 1921 and most of its residents were moved to a nearby home. In later years the buildings were used for several other purposes, one of those being a vocational school and it has been used as a set for some local films.
