About this deal

WATERPROOF – With IP68 waterproof control pod and coil to 5 m (16 ft), take X-TERRA PRO anywhere – land or water – and own the ground beneath your feet. The Minelab X-Terra Pro is a new metal detector introduced in February 2023. It is a fully submersible VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, jewelry, relic, gold nugget, and beach detecting. The X-Terra Pro is basically a Minelab Equinox without the simultaneous multifrequency option. Instead, it is a switchable frequency device, allowing the user to choose to run one of several single frequency options. A large difference between this and the old X-Terra series is the ability to do this with a single coil, just the push of a button. The X-Terra Pro is also fully submersible to 16 feet unlike previous X-Terra models. The X-Terra Pro is coil compatible with both the Minelab Equinox and Vanquish series detectors, meaning it actually has a better coil coil selection than either of those options. Also, the ability to carry out a complete Noise Cancel instead of frequency shifting is huge. This can make the difference between being able to detect and not detect in certain areas with excessive EMI.

Driven by the enhanced PRO-SWITCH™ engine, X-TERRA PRO by Minelab gives you the power to switch frequencies. Detect targets deep anywhere, in any conditions — there’s deep and then there’s Minelab deep. Factory Items (included):Minelab has been quite busy of late. The launch of the Manticore along with the Equinox 700 and 900 has been grabbing the headlines. But what of other machines in the range? At the entry-level, there is the GoFind, Vanquish 340, 440 and 540. The Equinox 600 sits in the mid-range, along with the new Equinox 700. The higher end begins with the new Equinox 900 and finishes with the Manticore. The CTX3030 is still a current machine but for all intents and purposes, it has been superseded by the Manticore. Certainly, there are situations where one might want to use a single frequency rather than rely solely on simultaneous multi-frequency. But this feature is already available in the Equinox range all be it at a fairly high price point. Being able to adjust recovery speed and also turn down the volume on iron signals makes for a sophisticated detector that is a switch on and go machine.

The metal detecting community is buzzing with excitement about the recent release of the Minelab X-terra Pro, the latest addition to Minelab's line of high-performance metal detectors. With its advanced switchable frequency technology, the X-terra Pro is set to revolutionize the way we search for hidden treasures. In this blog post, we'll explore what we know so far about this exciting new metal detector. Pro-Switch: Advanced Switchable Frequency Technology Three easy-to-use preprogrammed search modes, a large LCD, and an intuitive user interface make it easy for even beginners to use right out of the box. However, the detectors do look quite different. The Simplex is a little more dated in terms of styling and design than the X-TERRA PRO, which is to be expected with approximately 4 years between their release. The X-TERRA PRO almost looks like a hybrid of other Minelab detectors, borrowing elements of the shaft and coil design from the Vanquish range and the control box style from the Equinox detectors. It looks really modern, but one thing that may be either a clincher or a deal breaker for some is the colour. The X-TERRA PRO almost a military, camouflaged green colour which we like, but some might not. Coils came in a low frequency 3KHz variety, a mid frequency 7.5KHz and a high frequency 18KHz variety. This meant that depending on the particular targets you were hunting for, you could maximise your time. The X-Terra Pro is switchable, single-frequency metal detector with a waterproof rating of 5 metres,It’s the perfect machine for starting your detecting adventures with if you are brand-new to the hobby, but also a great specialised option to add to a detectorists tool-kit for those who want a modern, fun all round detector. Minelab has also made sure that the X-terra Pro is a rugged and durable machine, capable of withstanding the rigors of even the most demanding treasure hunts. The detector is built to withstand harsh weather conditions, and is both water-proof and dust-proof, making it suitable for use in a wide range of environments.

Although it’s difficult to assess across different machines, larger coils typically provide a greater ability to see targets which lie deeper in the ground. For example, the Vanquish metal detector comes with 3 different coil options, V8 (8”), V10 (10”) and the V12 (12”) if you fitted the V12, you could find targets at a greater depth, whereas the V8 would see at ashallower depth, but most likely in greater detail, as the same amount of energy flows through the coil regardless of which size you have fitted. Some detectorists love large coils to help them find the deepest of targets and some prefer smaller, for better target separation and to be more precise at the shallower depths. One big question which baffled the detecting community was why Minelab decided to launch a switchable single frequency machine in 2023? We think it’s the coolest looking machine around the price and its performance is absolutely brilliant. Again, in my opinion, the XTerra Pro trumps the Simplex+ in several areas. Primarily, the build quality is noticeably superior. It also has a bigger coil and has 3 switchable frequencies which the Simplex+ doesn’t. My take is that XTerra Pro and Vanquish are missing features that would benefit the other. I know I'm considered a detector snob, or whatever, but I consider the omissions as flaws, despite the great features both detectors bring to the table. And, yes, I know that when you add these features, you start moving the detectors to the Equinox low end, which obviates ML's intended hook and upsell strategy. But to me the omitted features just seem like random omissions, at least in the case of Vanquish and ground balance, that are almost essential features, done just to justify lower price points. But even without Multi-IQ, the Xterra appears to be the most well rounded value of the two and if I was given the choice to use either detector, it would probably be Xterra as it has most of the features of my preferred detector (Deus) before the Nox came along.

Minelab X-Terra Pro

It has always really been known that different metal detecting frequencies have pros and cons in that certain frequencies perform better on certain targets. In 2019 both Noktaand Minelabreleased new detectors for this market of detectorist and became heavy competition for the pre-existing Garrett Ace series. Garrett’s Ace detectorshad dominated in this area for quite some time, but the new technology and features within the Simplex and Vanquish machines generally replaced Garrett machines as choice in this price range for many people. This multi-frequency detector lets you fine-tune your searches by selecting the frequency best for the type of metal/ treasure you are hunting for. The ability to change frequencies also helps you filter out trash.

With the beaches and rivers being one of the key terrains for these machines waterproofmay be of more importance than we normally stress. At Crawfords Metal Detectors we sell a variety of detectors ranging from machines which only have a waterproof coil such as the Go Findand the high performance Vanquish range, to detectors specifically created for underwater detecting, such as the Excalibur II. Detectors like the Excalibur II are pressurised, and ideal for diving, and extreme underwater conditions (depth of 66 metres – 200ft). However, in the UK we find that due to our disappointing climate (let’s be honest, we do love the rain) and fairly cloudy waters that not many detectorists stray more than a few metres into the surf. Detect Modes and operating frequency can be instantly changed at the push of a button for a dynamic and uninterrupted detecting experience. The Simplex is once again commendable in its degree of target Id’s, offering 0-99 options for target identification. However, once again the X-TERRA PRO has more to offer here. The new generation of Minelab Equinox models(Equinox 700 and Equinox 900) were released in 2023 and provided a new extended target Id range from -19-99 and this technology seems to have been integrated into the X-TERRA PRO. This is amazing as it provides a level of detail on the target for the user that you wouldn’t see anywhere in this price range. The X-TERRA PRO has 30 discrimination segments, each one of which can be used to omit 4 of the target Id numbers, whereas the Simplex has fewer. but also a great specialised option to add to a detectorists tool-kit for those who want a modern, fun beach detector. Second Hand Metal Detectors – The Pros & Cons

As far as we can tell this machine is pretty much a Vanquish with an Equinox control panel and selectable single frequencies rather than Multi-IQ. What other options might you have?…..well, as mentioned at the top of this article, Minelab also manufacture the “Vanquish” range which consist of the 340, 440 and 540. The switchable frequencies adds an extra layer of versatility and means that you can fine tune performance for different target types and the most difficult ground conditions.
