About this deal

An aerial is required to watch Freeview Play for live TV as received through an aerial, as it is with standard Freeview. Only the on-demand and catch-up features require an internet connection. According to Freeview, you’ll need a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps. Freesat and IPTV

Then, ignoring any instructions in the manufacturer's guide to select " stereo mix", simply press the Record button on Transport Toolbar. USB ports come in a few different shapes and sizes. Sometimes this correlates with the maximum data transfer speeds of the device. Notably, in the case of USB A, this is not true. USB A Another consideration is how many people will be speaking simultaneously. If it's only one person talking in the room, a cardioid pattern mic is probably the best route. It might be worth considering a mic that has a figure-eight pattern if there's a one-on-one interview happening—placing the mic in the middle of the two speakers in this scenario (provided they are not far away from each other) can yield a natural recording. Why you should get an audio interface

If you have just made a recording it is strongly recommended that you immediately export your audio using File > Export > Export Audio to WAV or AIFF (ideally to an external drive) as a safety copy before you start editing the project. They were popular for a time, but have seen a sharp decline in the number available over the past ten years or so. With PVRs and on-demand content so popular you'll likely struggle to find a new model to buy, and we don't test them, either. Pros: USB 3.2 (Only used on Type C connections and later): Between 5Gbps and 20Gbps, depending on the version. There's a wide price range among USB mics and we've done our best to test models across the entire spectrum. Spending more doesn't necessarily mean you get a better product, but there does seem to be a fairly sensible scale of quality that comes with price. Finally, most USB mics are plug-and-play ready. Apple GarageBand, for instance, typically recognizes a USB mic immediately and asks if you want to use it as an input (set it for both input and output if you want to use it as a headphone monitor as well). But not all recording software plays nice with USB mics. Perhaps most surprisingly, Avid Pro Tools, which is more or less the industry standard for music recording software, requires a somewhat tedious workaround to support most USB mics. (You can search for "aggregate device USB mic Pro Tools" to get a better handle on that.)

Some gaming mics up the ante by providing multiple polar patterns. Although cardioid (single-direction) is the standard, maybe you want to capture more than one voice with an omnidirectional or figure-eight pattern. Some gaming mics also have built-in switches to work with specific consoles. Please note: Only European TVs have USB recording. US models have the feature disabled due to legal issues. It may very well be the case that you own a USB Recording enabled TV without actually being aware of this function, simply because to date there has not been much focus on this feature from the TV manufacturer’s perspective.PVRs allow you to record multiple programs at once - in some cases as many as seven - while watching something else.

They have built-in electronic programme guides, which is where you choose what to watch and record. Some manufacturers recommend USB hard drives with external power supplies but our tests have shown that Verbatim 2.5” external HDDs that take power from the USB plug, function on 98% manufacturers’ TVs without any problems. In the exceptional case that the power from the USB port on the TV is not sufficient, an external HDD with power supply always works. Manufacturers typically allow 1:1 recording, meaning that you will see no loss in picture quality. In this example on Windows, the output is set to the named speakers of the built-in computer sound device, the input is set to the USB turntable (usually called or including the phrase "USB Audio CODEC") and recording channels are set to stereo. Windows 10/8/7 calls most USB external devices "microphones". Some higher-end USB recording interfaces may appear as their explicit manufacturer's name. The USB hard drive now needs to be formatted by the TV, meaning that all current data (if any) on the hard drive will be deleted. Most TVs will recognize that there is a USB HDD inserted and will prompt you to format the USB HDD automatically, but on some models you need to enter the menu and select “format HDD” (or something similar). Then you're probably more suited to streaming-only entertainment, so you may want to consider the best streaming devicesinstead. They're easy to use, cheap and perfect for instant entertainment. You probably don't want a mic that uses obvious DSP in the signal. With music, the goal is typically to get the purest recording "to tape" (even if your "tape" is GarageBand). Then, any processing that needs to happen takes place during mixing. Some engineers record with a little EQ or compression as part of the signal chain, but that offers less flexibility down the road, as those effects are now baked into the recording. Of course, the compression or dynamic limiting is often in place to prevent distortion on peaks, so it's there in the name of preventing distortion from getting into the recording, which is the whole purpose of DSP to begin with. There's also the omnidirectional route if you're trying to capture the sound of a room. This can be particularly useful for location recordings—say, if your podcast calls for you to get the sound of a softball game in a park or the sound of glasses clinking and diners chatting at a restaurant. But this brings up another point—if your podcast is going to involve on-location recording, you should consider a mic that can record directly to mobile devices.
