So that means you can use the dye sublimation transfer process on polyester T-shirts, totebags, aprons, garden flags, and pillowcases, yes, but it also means things with a polyester coating, of which there are really many! You can get sublimation blanks for countless items… ceramic mugs, stainless steel tumblers, mouse pads, puzzles, coasters, oven mitts, there are SO many things! It’s also possible to do things like wood and MDF when you use a special layer. If there’s something you want to sublimate, you can likely find a way to do it! Everything you see in the photo below is something I sublimated! Aren’t they cool? Sublimating onto HTV, or heat-transfer vinyl gives you the perfect way to add graphics to t-shirts and many other items. This is the most popular method to use by far, but you can only sublimate onto certain types of HTV. The surface of the HTV has to contain a good amount of polyester for this process to work. Some types of HTV even have special polyester coatings on top of the vinyl to make this easier!
Another factor is improper heat and pressure settings during the sublimation process. If the temperature is too low or the pressure is insufficient, the sublimation ink may not fully transform into a gas or bond effectively with the vinyl, resulting in a faded or blurry print. Therefore, if you are thinking of all the lovely dark cotton onesies and dark-colored t-shirts you will decorate, sublimation will not work for you. You can only get results with polyester or a poly blend that has a high percentage of polyester in it, and it has to be light in color.
Use the trace function to cut out a white HTV shape, just a hair smaller than the outline of the print.
