Plus, they sound good, and are about the same price. The HDJ-CX headphones have a surprisingly full sound, with deeper bass than expected, and a featherlight fit. Whilst you’re in the booth, you’ll likely be running your headphones at a very high volume to properly hear your mix. Of course, the highs aren’t going to be very pronounced on a DJ headphone, but the frequencies aren’t rolled off either. They actually possess a pretty flat timbre that appears even and well communicated. It presents a good amount of clarity with a solid amount of volume to the treble region. Because of this, we’d be happy using these in the studio as well. With help from the ‘sound insulation chamber’, they also eliminate external noise incredibly well, as you’d expect from the design.

As referenced frequently in this post, these are all things you’d want to see in a decent set of DJ headphones: You can wear the HDJ-CX headphones for several hours and hardly feel their presence. This supreme level of comfort comes from the brand-new lightweight, ergonomic design. Every tiny detail has been considered, including the wiring in the cable which has been slimmed down to reduce weight, and even the positioning of the curl on the coiled cable which has been moved closer to the plug for greater balance. It’s easy to find a perfect fit thanks to all this, plus a high level of flex in the sturdy, stainless steel headband and adjustable earcups. Another nice (and premium) selling point is that the polyurethane leather used for the ear pads and headband has a Nano coating on it. This is resistant to sweat, dirt and general deterioration.

When you copy something like the HD 25s, you’re going to draw comparisons – and these are definitely a copy, if not exactly the same. Trouble is, it’s like comparing any other turntable with the Technics 1210 Mk2 – something that has proven itself over and over again, its very reliability being its strength. As a brand, the AIAIAI range is famously used by Richie Hawtin, Charlotte de Witte and many others – so what’s not to like! Approximate price: First headphones in the world to reproduce frequencies from 5 Hz to 40 kHz in the DJ headphones market (according to research conducted by Pioneer DJ Corporation Ltd, 21st August 2017). The HDJ-CX ‘phones have a surprisingly full sound, with deeper bass than I was expecting, which is a good thing. Pioneer DJ says they go down to 4Hz or something, which is ridiculous as we can’t hear anywhere near that low, but hey. Bottom line: They sound really nice, like bigger headphones.

HDJ-CX is so lightweight you might forget you’re wearing them. AlphaTheta Corporation has today announced the release of the brand new professional on-ear DJ headphone from its Pioneer DJ brand: the HDJ-CX.It might not seem like the Pioneer HDJ-CX is that special, but it can be pretty reliable for a good sound. As far as accurate studio headphones go, there is a ton of strong competition, but if you’re specifically looking for a flat ear cup with a focus on bass, then the CX will better speak to you. Pros Released in March 2022, the HDJ-CX are professional on-ear DJ headphones from Pioneer DJ– similar in many ways to the Sennheiser HD 25s that we’ve just covered. For the price, you really can’t go wrong, although just be aware they might get a little uncomfortable when wearing them for longer DJ sets as the ear cups are quite small.
