About this deal
Speyside Region 1995 Refill Sherry Hogshead #95/55 2296 - Cask in storage at Glenfarclas auction ended What sets Glenfarclas apart is its status as one of the few remaining family-owned distilleries in Scotland. For over 180 years, the Grant family has meticulously overseen every aspect of production, ensuring that the distillery's heritage and expertise are passed down through generations. This dedication is palpable in every drop of Glenfarclas whisky. The answer is – we genuinely don’t know. We have a painting showing whisky production from 1791, but there is no evidence of a licensed distillery here at that time – and it’s clear from the painting that they had already been producing uisge beatha for some time. The water is combined with malted barley and double distilled in copper pot stills, before two thirds is filled in Spanish Sherry oak casks. The remaining liquid is poured into normal oak casks. The casks used to make the whisky span six decades. Glenfarclas 1953 63 years old Pagoda Sapphire Reserve (Silver) - Cask no. 1677 - Original bottling - 70cl auction ended
Nose: if you’ve tried Glenfarclas from the 1970s (especially refill wood) then this will be familiar. Stewed plums and nectarines, as well as waxed oranges, pink grapefruits and hints of pollen. Hints of dried mango and golden raisins. Light touches of dried herbs and subtle rose petals. Dusty books. Mint tea as well. Pretty gorgeous: really vibrant and fresh, and unmistakably well-aged.Whisky cask investment is a unique venture that can be profitable, yet it necessitates a deep understanding and acceptance of the associated risks. The story of the Glenfarclas Grants, started in 1805, when John Grant, the present Chairman’s great-great grandfather, was born on the farm of Lynbeg, at Glenlivet, in the heart of Speyside.
The distillery sits in the moors of Banffshire, just a mile from the River Spey. Glenfarclas has always been, and it seems will remain to be, one of Scotland's only family run distilleries.
