About this deal

The power of the Empire is visible on any subjugated world—few images are more representative of Imperial power than the shining white armor of a Stormtrooper or the rumble of a walker stomping through city streets or across the battlefield. Soon, you’ll be able to supplement your Stormtroopers with another symbol of Imperial oppression: the All Terrain Scout Transport!" During the battle of Endor Chewbacca and a pair of Ewoks manage to take control of an Imperial AT-ST (All Terrain Scout Transport) walker. Chewbacca uses the element of surprise to climb onto the AT-ST and overpower the Imperial pilots. After taking control of the walker, Chewbacca and the Ewoks use it to turn the tide of the battle in favor of the Rebels. The 88 Twin Light Blaster Cannon is basically an upgrade for your MS-4. A very solid one. Here are the wounds by target for various scenarios:

As expected, aim helps the MS-4 considerably, while heavy cover is quite detrimental. Aim is worth about an extra hit, or about 30% more output. Moving, as the name suggests, allows you to cross the battlefield with your units. The game comes with three movement tools, and each unit has a specific movement range varying from 1-3. When moving a trooper squadron you move the unit’s leader the designated range, then bring all his fellow troops into cohesion. Vehicle movement is slightly different, in that the tool clips into place with the front base of the vehicle, and vehicles can also pivot and reverse.

But as an object or vehicle gets larger we start to reduce the scale percentage. For example, an AT-ST figure could be at around 80-85% scale. This means that it is 85% true scale when compared to a miniature.

Almost all tabletop games use a sliding scale to scale down larger objects. This is because if a large vehicle was at the exact same scale as a miniature, the battlefield itself would become overcrowded. It would be hard to fit all models onto the battlefield and the miniatures would have less space to move in. The Core Set comes with 33 models in total, all of which require some degree of assembly. The pieces of the models do not require removing from sprues, so no craft knife is required for assembly, although some gamers may like to remove mold lines, and clean respectively. As the scenario opens, a lone AT-ST on a recon mission has gathered important intel on the location of an underground Rebel bunker before being shot down by Alliance starfighters. Desperate to So with a little maths, we can divide the actual eye height of a Stormtrooper (1678mm) by the eye height of the mini (35.7mm) and this will give us the rough scale of the minis themselves.

The AT-ST Unit Expansion features a massive AT-ST miniature as well as all of the upgrade and unit cards needed to add the behometh to your army. From the original Publisher's Description: "Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Star Wars™: Legion, a new miniatures game of infantry battles that invites you to join iconic heroes and villains, lead your troopers into battle, and battle for the fate of the Star Wars galaxy. With Star Wars: Legion, you can build and paint a unique army of miniatures. You can command your troops in battle and devise masterful tactics. And you can conquer your opponent’s army to bring victory to the light side or the dark side!" The 88 helps in pushing hits through cover as well. You are looking at 2.56 hits against units in heavy cover with the 88, and 1.29 without.

Throw in an aim token? 6.64. Two aim tokens? 7.41. You have a decent shot at wiping out an entire Rebel Trooper squad throwing those kind of dice. Star Wars Legion really comes into its own with two Core Sets, and the expansions. Two Core Sets gives you enough movement and range tools for both players, and more than enough dice than you should ever need. With two Cores and one each of the unit expansions, you can field a full 800 point army. And of course, perhaps the most entertaining way you can customize your army is by painting and customizing your miniatures! All Star WarsLegion minis come unpainted, so after you assemble your army, you’ll be able to paint your miniatures into something that only you could have created. Although you don’t need to paint your miniatures, many players find it more enjoyable to play with a painted army, and even if you’ve never painted an army of miniatures before, Star WarsLegion is the perfect introduction to the hobby.

The mini cards which appear in the Core Set and the expansions, further enhance each unit, you can customise what gear you want to give each unit. Each unit card lists on the left-hand side what gear options you can give them, each slot can hold one mini-card, so you can customise each unit to your preference and liking, do you want it to be anti-vehicle or anti-infantry? The DW-3 Grenade Launcher + MS-4, without Aim, does better against targets in heavy cover than the 88 + MS-4 with Aim. Obviously this gap widens further if you aim with the DW-3.

I spent some time in the Effective Wounds article exploring how difficult it is to quantify the impact of Armor, and then proceeded to attempt to do so anyway. Give it a read if you haven’t already. When a unit activates it gets to do two of the following actions – only the Move action can be duplicated – all the rest you can only perform once. The list of actions is as follows: This expansion deepens your immersion in the Star Wars galaxy with a beautifully sculpted downed AT-ST miniature that joins the fabric of the battlefield itself, providing valuable cover for your troops no matter what planet they find themselves on. Additionally, six new battle cards invite you to make your crashed AT-ST a focal point of a two part scenario, bringing even more variety to your games of Star Wars: Legion. AT-ST Star Wars: Legion army can only include two heavy units, and in truth, you would be hard-pressed to include more than two AT-STs among your forces. Coming in at a base cost of 195 points, a single AT-ST takes up almost a quarter of your full allotment of 800 points in a standard game. Star Wars Legion really comes into its own when you come to customise your army. In a standard game of Legion, each side gets to spend 800 points worth on troops. You are limited as to how many of the more powerful units you can bring to bear, for example, each side can only have up to two heavy units, the Imperials for example will only be bringing a maximum of two AT-ST’s to the battle. Before you ever start throwing down any aim tokens, you are looking at 5.5 net hits. Due to the Blast keyword of the grenade launcher, this applies to units in cover just as much as units in the open. 5.5 hits against cover is awesome.
