Meyer said she does not have plans to write sequels to Life and Death, nor does she think it will become a film. The Twilight fans that are likely to be the most disappointed by the reimagined novel are the ones that were Team Jacob. Julie’s importance in the new gender-swapped version is very minimal in comparison to Jacob’s in the Twilight series. Plus, of course, there is no “ Renesmee” equivalent, but some fans may feel that is for the best since Jacob “imprinting” on Edward and Bella’s baby was a controversial plotline.

In the afterword of Life and Death, Meyer said the new novel is not just about changing Bella’s gender to become a male. She said she wanted to see what would happen if the series had ended with the first Twilight book and if the timing of the plot had been different. radiantbeauty97 Fandoms: Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer, Life and Death - Stephenie Meyer, Twilight Series - All Media Types TheDarkSorceress666 Fandoms: Millennium Of Hellfire-Original Series, American Horror Story, American Horror Story: Coven, The Vampire Diaries (TV), The Originals (TV), Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer, Life and Death - Stephenie Meyer, Vampire Chronicles Series - Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire (TV 2022), The Lives of the Mayfair Witches - Anne Rice, Mayfair Witches (TV 2023), Teen Wolf (TV), The Witch (2016), The Ritual (2017), Suspiria (2019), The Conjuring (Movies), Multi-Fandom Stephenie Meyer Announces New Gender-Swapped 'Twilight' Book". The Hollywood Reporter. Valence Media. October 6, 2015 . Retrieved March 27, 2019. Archie Cullen: Edythe, Royal and Eleanor's adoptive brother and Jessamine's mate. He has the power to see the future and uses this to warn the other Cullens about Joss' hunt for Beau. He is very supportive of Edythe and Beau's relationship and becomes one of Beau's good friends. When Joss starts hunting Beau, Archie and Jessamine take Beau to Phoenix in Arizona and go into hiding.Anyway, despite some obvious flaws, by the time Edythe was rescuing Beau from being shot in Port Angeles, I was fully invested and enjoying the shifting character dynamics. Life and Death was shaping up to be a four star read. Beau did SO many things that would make sense as a girl (aka as Bella), but since he was a man, those actions no longer made sense. Carlisle notices Beau's major crush and his attempts to get closer... without realizing he already succeeded in winning Carlisle over long ago. People do not want to just read Meyer's books; they want to climb inside them and live there." -- Time A good change that happened as a result of the gender swap is that there’s no Renesmee/Jacob pedophilia crap!! That was one of my biggest issues for this series and it’s impossible for that to happen with the gender-swapped version of the characters.

And because there was no "preparation" given to this rash decision of Beau becoming a vampire, therefore the hard reality of what this means for everybody else comes crashing down. Charlie, Renee, and everybody else in Forks believes that Beau died in a car accident. Beau can never see or speak to his parents or school friend again, including Jules. What made this especially depressing for me is the understanding that the last words Beau said to Charlie were the words Bella said to him before she left Forks, hurtful words that were meant to stun him and keep him from following her. The fact that this will be the memory Charlie will forever keep of his final moments with his son makes it impossible for me to see any "happiness" of the situation for Beau and Edythe. And it angered me that Edythe seemed more upset by this than Beau did. Beau didn't even seem all that sad or bummed when he watched his own funeral from several miles away, and took in the sight of his mother and father, looking frail from their grieving; he says he's sad but I had hard time believing it. And what's to stop poor Charlie from slipping into a serious depressive state? Renee at least has Phil by her side, but who will help Charlie during these moments? And again, Charlie was the last person who spoke to Beau before his "death"; OF COURSE he's going to blame himself! I would expect Beau to be a little more cut up by all this, but I'm not buying it when he mentions (like it's a passing thought) that he's aware this was their final exchange. But oh well, who cares about his father's depression? HE'S A VAMPIRE WITH EDYTHE NOW! A fandom-blind friendly fic set along Apricity's timeline, set in the immediate future. It starts right after the Seattle trip and continues through the summer before the next school year begins.] Bella swings by Edythe's house to get some help with dancing, only to run into her long-time crush and Edythe's older sister, Carine. Fortunately for her, Carine is very willing to help her out. One could argue that Meyer wrote a more progressive version of Twilight with Life and Death and that's partly true to an extent. Edythe does appear to try to make her relationship with Beau as equal as possible. But there are constant references to the gender changes as if Meyer is trying to prov What's a colorblind teenage dirtbag to do when his vampire girlfriend dumps him in a forest? Abandoned in Forks, human disaster Beau Swan must cope with depression, supernatural murder attempts, heaps of Girl werewolves, and a dad who simply can not cook his own dinner.

Female Edward, aka Edythe (because it isn't a YA book if there isn't a name with an unnecessary Y), was nice. I liked her. She felt just like a slightly less horrible version of Edward, which she was by all means, a lot of the time. Charlie is one of my favorite characters of the series. I enjoyed him a lot and I really had hope when I figured “hey, if everyone switched genders, it’ll be cool to see woman!Charlie and man!Renée” but nope. That made me so incredibly angry and her excuse for it? It wasn’t realistic. REALLY, STEPHENIE, REALLY? So you go and write and Paranormal teenager romance book, then you re-write said book but changing the genders and you couldn’t make the father have the custody because ”Here’s the reason for that: Beau was born in 1987. It was a rare thing for a father to get primary custody of a child in those days—even more so when the child was just a baby. Most likely, the mother would have had to be proven unfit in some way. I have a really hard time believing that any judge at that time (or even now) would give a child to a transient, unemployed father over a mother with a steady job and strong ties to her community.” It’s your WORLD, Stephenie. If you really wanted to make it rain blood, you could have done it. That’s just you being lazy, and I’m not sorry to say it. It’d be great to see a female Charlie being chief police and her being taciturn and not some homely just like male Charlie and what about a carefree male Renée? I mean, that could have been good but no. Ugh. Let me start off by saying that I did love these books when I first read them. What can I say? I didn't know a lot of great books and pretty much read whatever was popular. Since then I've grown and I discovered this great community and so many amazing books. So when I re-read these old favorites of mine, I couldn't do it. I hated them. I saw everything that was wrong with these books. And I'm not saying that it's wrong for you to like these books. It's not. It's awesome if you love them. I know a lot of you started reading or discovered YA books because of these books and that is amazing! If anything, I'm happy that it got you reading and if you love these books, good for you. But I don't. And I never had a chance to review these books since I didn't really know that was a thing until I found Goodreads. Now I do and it's not going to be pretty. She's also criticized for being too consumed with her love interest, as if that's somehow just a girl thing. (That's NOT what we said, Meyer.) But I've always maintained that it would have made no difference if the human were male and the vampire female - it's still the same story. Gender and species aside, Twilight has always been a story about the magic and obsession and the frenzy of first love. So I thought to myself, Well, what if I put that to the test?" Unhealthy, as in for majority of women, this is an unattainable beauty standard. Apologies if that came off as body shaming women/girls where that is their healthy. I'm speaking specifically about society's constant pressure on women and girls to be as thin as possible, many times to the detriment of their physical and emotional health. When Beau describes Edythe, he focuses so heavily on the sharp angles of her bones and it perpetuates the idea that these characteristics make her more beautiful than others. I find these descriptions irresponsible and feel there could have been a better way to describe her.Twilight along with the rest of the books in the saga were the reason I started reading and if it wasn't for them I probably would have never joined Booktube. When I heard about this new book I cried (I know pretty dramatic) but I'm turning 18 tomorrow aka the "ending" of my childhood and honestly it's weird since I still feel like I'm 8. With the release of this book it made me realize I own a lot to Stephenie Meyer and I cannot wait to read this book. Overall, I liked it! It was fun and simple. If you're already a fan of Twilight, I'd say try it out! If you're not, maybe try it out too? 🤷‍♀️ Who knows, maybe you'll like it? Bella's attempted rape scene has now turned into Beau's assault scene. If you remember, in Twilight, while Bella is getting lost in Port Angeles, she runs into a group of drunk men who attempt to sexually assault her. This is made clear by their jeers ("Don't be like that, sugar.") and Edward's later dialogue. But for Beau, his assailants are a mix between female and male and have the intention of beating him up because they think he is a cop. The section is entirely re-written with more dialogue, a gun and threats of death.
