There was a software update that took several minutes to complete. But once this was done, the scales were ready to use. The “scales” don’t even show weight unless they detect naked feet. So you can’t weigh your suitcase on the way to the airport. That was a real surprise and not mentioned in the manual. Once you’ve hit ‘reset’ the scale will prompt you to pair with the Garmin Connect app. It uses Bluetooth for this bit, but then the rest of the updates happen via WiFi. Input your gender, height, weight and date of birth, then your activity level (low, medium or high) and name or initials (to identify which user you are) and you should be good to go. I decide to treat myself and get the Index S2, since I've been training pretty hard these past two years; I have two other body scales, and also use the tape-measure system to measure body fat.

The Withings Body smart scale is well designed, but it only measures weight and BMI so some might see it as no different to a digital scale.

The design is sleek and minimalist, the display (which only appears when the scale is in use) is bright and easy to read while standing up, and the non-slip glass platform feels sturdy and stable underfoot. In any event, by the time you’re done dorking around with that switch, you’ll find the Index S2 showing off its new color screen, waiting for you to pair it up. The scale is fast; your weight is displayed on the crisp, bright screen almost immediately. By default you’ll also be shown your body composition stats and the weather, but if you prefer there’s also an option to show your weight only. I didn’t specifically test that each user’s screen preferences are separately saved, I assume they are. Nevertheless, we enjoyed using the Eufy P2 Pro, and considering the low price, it's easy to look past the scale's flaws and appreciate its many useful features. The P2 Pro might not be the best smart scale on the market, but it's worth the money – not to mention, it syncs with third-party apps such as Apple Health, Google Fit and even Fitbit.
