About this deal

In 1979, C.P. produced the promo tees for the Banana Republic Tour by troubadours Francesco De Gregori and Lucio Dalla. The latter was a dear friend of Massimo Osti and one of the first celebs to endorse his creations, as they both came from the volcanic cultural scene of 1970s Bologna.

As part of the celebrations around the brand’s 50th anniversary in 2021, C.P. Company produced a series of collaborations with several other brands, including Patta, adidas Spezial, Barbour, Clarks Originals, and Emporio Armani. [44] [45] [46] [47] [48] In 2023 a collaborative capsule collection with British streetwear brand Palace was produced, based on reinterpretations of classic garments from C.P. Company’s own archive. [49] The brand has also collaborated with a number of musicians, including Kano, Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian, Liam Gallagher, and the band Gorillaz, to create capsule collections. [50] [51] [52] [53] While notable musicians who have worn the brand include Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Bez from the Happy Mondays, and Damon Albarn who wore the Aitor Throup-designed Mille Miglia on the cover of his 2014 album Everyday Robots. [54] [55] [56] Subcultural influence [ edit ] Philips Electronics had a multi-disciplinary team work on the project that resulted in 60 concepts that were displayed during the exhibition through 45 short films and approximately 180 product models and simulations. Chi ’97:Proceedings of the ACM SIGCHI Conference on Human factors in computing systems, p.494. My life wasn’t planned to bring me to celebrate the 50th anniversary,” Lorenzo Osti explains, when he spoke with HYPEBEAST earlier this month. “My father left the company in 1993, and I chose another career, far away from fashion. But when my father passed away, I felt a duty to take care of his heritage.” His passion for militaria and workwear shone through in his designs and set him apart from the crowd. Not only was he creating rugged and hardwearing clothing for the consumer but also designed uniforms for Volvo, the Swedish car manufacturers.

This is an interesting note, existing examples of the ICD+ press kits have fabric samples from ICD despite them being made for an ICD+ launch event. Walling, J. (2005). Leonidas Triple Calendar

Massimo Osti was born and raised in Bologna, Italy. He became a graphic designer and worked in the advertising business. His career in the fashion industry began in the early 1970s, when he designed a T-shirt collection featuring placed prints. He was the first to use new techniques like the four-color process and silkscreen which are used for producing T-shirt. Following the success of this first T-shirt collection, he accepted the offer to design a complete Men's collection and became an equity partner in the company he would name 'Chester Perry' (later renamed the 'C.P. Company'). [3] 1980s [ edit ] Phil Thornton, Casuals : Football, Fighting and Fashion : The Story of a Terrace Cult (Lytham: Lytham : Milo Books, 2003).

There may be a relevant point in examining Deleuze’s & Guattari’s use of a nomad as a metaphor for someone who is not fixed within a structure and is free to move at will. Especially given their popularity among writers like William Gibson. The Italian clothing designer Massimo Osti (1944-2005) created groundbreaking fashion works during the 1980’s and 90’s by combining his revolutionary textile innovations and painting techniques, with functional ideas from mainly military clothing. The combination of new materials, colours, functional aspects and magnificent details, characterize Osti’s work. Originality and functionality are the mainstay of his story. This made Stone Island and C.P. irresistible for many people. Five years after his death, Massimo is still an important source of inspiration for everyone who is involved in making clothing. Without knowing it, each and every one of us probably owns an item that was somehow influenced by Osti. But watches like the Submariner could not release the gas that had sneaked in under the enormous pressure underwater. When pressure decreased, in a diving bell, for example, gasses inside the watch expanded but couldn’t get out because of the extremely strong construction of a Submariner. So, the gas left the watch through the weakest link: the glass. With an enormous bang and force, this popped off the watch under high pressure. A life-threatening situation in a decompression tank the size of a few mobile toilet units. The French diving company COMEX asked Rolex to collaborate on the solution to this problem. They made a Submariner with a one-way gas escape valve, and the problem was gone. In 1971, Rolex introduced the 1665 Sea-Dweller: A Submariner with a strengthened case and the world’s first helium valve. The ‘used’ look characterises the image of the garment itself. Each piece is unique and unrepeatable and the differences between one garment and the other are a peculiar feature of the product itself” – Taken from a CP Company tag.

Massimo loved the Sea-Dweller

It all started in 1987 when a style assistant for Studio Osti encountered a new material from Japan named Sway. The material was nylon coated with resin, containing thermosensitive microcapsules which allowed colour change in the dye with change of temperature. The Journal of Textile Institute, 199-210. doi:10.1533/joti.2004.0071 P. 202 He was one of the first to take screen printing to clothing and pioneered countless new innovations, ranging from garment dying to rubber wool. His work was aesthetic but above all, functional. Massimo Osti died in 2005 and his legacy lives on today through the Massimo Osti Archive, a textile archive which includes 5,000 garments and over 50,000 fabric samples from approximately 300 textile mills and garment finishing companies from around the world.

Despite C.P. Company’s garments were never explicitly conceived with Paninari in mind, we can’t help but notice how the brand’s campaigns published on Uomo Moda viscerally influenced the scene’s style. During the 1950s, the Submariner stood at the basis of the creation of the Sea-Dweller. When better engines, cars, and interstate highways increased the fuel demand explosively, at least in the United States, domestic oilfields were no longer adequate. After having fueled WWII, these were seriously depleted, and oil companies started to look further and had to drill deeper – offshore! The new drilling depths came with several new challenges. The pressure at deeper depths was one of them. For divers in the first place, this problem was solved with underwater decompression tanks or diving bells, where gasses could be breathed out.
