About this deal

When the kids have finished playing with their bean bag games, here’s how you can use them around the house or classroom: Turn the music on and dance with your kids while tossing the beanbag to and fro. When the music stops, you all have to freeze in position. First start by drawing basic fish shapes and cutting them out in cardboard. Then let the children decorate the fish in creative ways, such as: This is a great gross motor game and can also be mixed with an art activity if you decide to get creative with the cones. 8. Catch This is a great game for improving gross motor skills, and can also be mixed with an art activity (by decorating the tins).

Dame Kelly founded her national youth development organisation on the belief every young person needs a champion. Tic Tac Toe is normally a thinking game but you can also turn it into a gross-motor exercise. Draw a large Tic Tac Toe board on the paving or on a large sheet of paper. Challenge yourself further by changing the rules – hop on one leg to the end, balance two bean bags on your head, race with a bean bag on a ruler, etc. 10. Noughts and Crosses The children sat criss-cross applesauce in a circle and wrapped one arm across their bellies and used their other arm to receive and pass the bean bag from one friend to the other. This was more challenging than it might seem, and once the children seemed to have a good handle on the process, I made things a little more interesting by calling out “switch directions” and “switch arms.” Hot Potato Because these homemade bean bags are so light, I wasn’t worried about the preschoolers or toddlers accidentally getting hurt in a gentle game of catch. This was a fun, interactive way to the practice hand-eye coordination and co-operation.The objective of Noughts And Crosses Race is to get either three noughts or three crosses in a row either vertically, horizontally or diagonally! You can balance them on your head or on your feet, shoulders, hands or arms. Try carrying one on a wooden spoon without dropping it. Children can really work on eye-hand coordination by doing a few minutes of shooting practice every now and again. 13. Freeze Dance Try pairing an adult with a child as this could be physically challenging. Also, make the net low so it is not difficult to toss the beanbag over. Adjust the height for older children. 7. Bowling This turned out to be a genius idea, as it gives the bean bags just enough weight to carry out all of the games, but not enough weight to hurt someone or damage furniture if thrown in a moment of excitement.

Encourage and watch how much your child can balance on his head or other body parts at the same time. Instead of using noughts and crosses, use two different coloured bean bags to represent two players.

Benefits Of Bean Bags

The object is to take turns laying down a beanbag on a square and try to make a row of three. The first person to make a row of three vertically, horizontally or diagonally is the winner.

Children can race with friends with bean bags balancing of different parts of their bodies. If it is just you and your child, you can race against each other or you can ti Equipment Required: Bean bags (five per team), chalk (for drawing the grid) and cones (one per team) Play hide and seek with the bean bags by hiding them around the house or garden and then sending the children to find them. In this variation of netball, use a beanbag instead of a ball. Throw the beanbag to each other (or to your own team members if there are a few players) and score by throwing the beanbag into the hoop.

The ‘dog’ keeps their eyes closed as the other children pass around a bone (bean bag), while chanting: When the princess sat down for a chat with a group of schoolgirls from St Katherine’s School in Bristol supported by the charity, she opened up the floor to questions about herself. Asked if she wanted to be a “royal” by a pupil, the princess replied it was something she had not expected but she “fell in love” with William. You can also play this using just 3 counters per team. If all three counters have been placed on the grid and no team has won by creating a line of their counters, then the next team player can run to the grid and reposition one of their team’s counters. Counters keep being repositioned one at a time by players until there is a winning team or they run out of a predetermined set amount of time (eg 5 minutes). Water-based (Swimming pool version)

Volleyball Toss Teach early maths skills by telling them how many you have hidden and ask them to find them all. Count them as they find them and bring them to you, one at a time. The Princess of Wales has admitted becoming a member of the royal family was something she never expected – but then she met and “fell in love” with William. Kate made the admission when she joined a Dame Kelly Holmes Trust event in Bath and took on the double Olympic champion at a game of bean-bag noughts and crosses – but came out second best. Bean bags are a great tool for balancing activities. There are many different ways people of any age can practise their balancing skills. You can also play ‘hot and cold’ by saying whether a child is getting closer (‘hotter’) or further away (‘colder’) from a hidden bean bag. 13. Endurance Race

Level-up by having hoops at different distances and having to throw the bean bag into each hoop to finish. You can even make it a race if there is more than one player. Add extra fun by assigning points to each hoop, based on their position and level of difficulty. 6. Bowling Step Two: Divide your class into two groups. Ask them to make two lines about 20 metres from the grid. Tip: Use cones to mark the front of the lines. Place the pile of bean bags in front of the first person in each group. Make sure each group has different coloured bean bags. An inherent problem here is that there is always the possibility a thrown counter always ends up in the same square as one already occupied by a counter or completely misses, so somebody would need to be in the pool (or have a long net) to remove the misthrown counter. During my recent striving for minimalism purge, I destashed all of my fabric. I posted on Facebook offering giant bags of fabric in exchange for one or two sewing projects. It ended up being a great trade and something I’ll likely consider again during our continuing purge.
