As you are cutting them out, don’t worry too much if you deviate from the drawn line a little bit. Remember, it is a natural pumpkin. The only thing to ensure is that both cut outs are the same. If they are going to be under a shade and protected, you can use regular plywood but be sure to seal them really well. I cut my plywood using a circular saw and a straight-cut guide. I find it easier to cut large pieces of plywood on the ground. I used furring strips in this free video tutorial, but you can also use 1×4’s, pallet boards or reclaimed wood. Furring strips are lightweight which makes it easier to create stability for such a large project.
