About this deal

The Orient Sun and Moon comes with a top-of-the-line scratch-resistant sapphire crystal to keep your watch blemish-free for it’s entire lifetime. Actually it’s for your entire lifetime since the watch will most likely outlive you (not guaranteed). The Orient Sun and Moon v3 stands out clearly for its classic design that is out of the ordinary, but it also features high-quality components. Let’s break it down: ➤ Case and Glass I tell myself that that's ok, it is not a copycat or an impostor. It is made by a respected brand with an in-house movement. There's nothing wrong with its heritage. Yet id you dress to impress, there's a bit of a hangup about wearing inexpensive things. I guess this could be a dilemma just in my mind just like the weight of the watch. What’s great about this watch is that the hour-markers combine both Roman numeral and baton styles effortlessly, while retaining the design of the sun and moon complication. Replacing the day indication, we have a refined circular hole where you can see a bit of the calibre it comes with. While it does not have a date display, the dial of the watch makes up for it because of its sophisticated textured look. Leaning towards a bigger blueprint, the Sun and Moon Open Heart watch comes with a 42mm case and a bracelet width of around 22mm, making it the perfect model for men, especially those that have slightly wider wrists. The second hand movement is very classy with only a hint of stop during the sweep. The sapphire crystal appears to have a middle layer that may magnify or focus the inner dial and is visible when held at an angle. This is a gorgeous watch when seen in person. Yes, the Roman numerals are truncated on the left side of the dial, but this seems to be a design choice by Orient. The v4 also has truncated numbers, at 8 and 10. This may be a matter of Orient deciding to fit the face to the caliber, rather than vise versa. And while the Roman numeral IIII may only exist in Japan, I find it a bit quirky and fun. The deployant clasp is also very well done and is quite comfortable. My wrist is 7.5” and I have two holes left on the alligator style leather strap which feels and looks high quality. One of the more intriguing aspects of the Sun and Moon is that it doesn’t refer simply to one watch. Instead it denotes a whole line of watches with multiple generations and colors.

Naturally, at this price point, you’re not going to get a Patek Philipe level of movement decoration, but it does have some decorations on the rotor. Regardless, it’s still nice to look at and reminds of the beautiful mechanical craftsmanship inside. Dress watches are an interesting type of watch because they are meant to be simple clean, refined, and classy and meant to be worn on formal occasions. But at the same time, this often means that dress watches can be perceived as rather boring. They’re often relatively small and don’t have a lot going on… The good news is that the FAK00004B has the solution to this.

The glass is sapphire and has a water resistance of 50 meters, which means it is suitable for activities like swimming in a pool but not for diving. ➤ Dial All in all, a nice in-house automatic movement inside a watch of this price range is a great value proposition from Orient. Strap Another newly-released watch from the Sun and Moon series is the re-edition of the Orient Sun and Moon Version 1. While many people think that it is just a mere revamp of the very first watch of the series, the reborn version contains clear-cut innovations and merges all the themes of all Sun and Moon watches from Version 1 up to Version 4. So what does the Orient Sun and Moon series say about the wearer? Is he a racing driver? a deep-sea diver? an astronaut? I've been thinking about this and I have come to the conclusion that the Sun and Moon v3 tells the world that you are, in fact, a Time Lord. That being said, this is a very excellent watch. I already have a small collection and just the few minutes I spent wearing it to adjust the band and try it on (I haven't had a chance to wear it anywhere) this may be my favorite so far. The watch is extremely comfortable and lightweight to the point I could see forgetting I even have it on. This is my first leather strap with a clasp (not sure if that's the actual name for it) and it works remarkably well offering the snap-on convenience of a metal bracelet, with the comfort and easy wrist sizing (no fiddling with removing links!) of a leather band. Orient has successfully made an affordable dress watch that offers great value for money, but at the same time, is not perceived as boring or simple. It’s a fine balance, but Orient has succeeded well. As others have said, a photo doesn’t do this watch justice. That’s because of the depth of the face. This is a six-layer cake of a watch. At the bottom is the date layer, then the day indicator layer with the lower part of the face with guilloche detailing, then the upper part of the dial with the same detailing and the day/night indicator. The day/night indicator does not show moon phase, nor does it claim to do so. Then you have the three hands layered above which appear to be hovering well over the face. This accentuates the depth and looks stunning.

I happen to own a Toyota 4Runner and let me tell you, these two go together like peanut butter and jelly. A big part of the appeal of Orient's watches to me is that they produce all of their movements in-house; entry-level Swiss watches can't say that. With that said, if you buy a watch with an ETA movement you can be pretty sure it will run reliably and be easy to service. There's really not much to be said about the craftsmanship of this piece. It's an Orient which is a quality watchmaker. This watch is a bit pricey, but not absurdly so. I believe you get what you pay for and this watch strikes the perfect balance of price vs quality and features which gives it great value even if it's not a so-called investment watch like a Rolex or Omega or such (which I would be almost scared to even wear). But the dial is what makes this watch stand out from the crowd in a world of dress watches. This dial has a lot going on, and the functions it does have can come in really handy when you are wearing it. Most importantly, it ensures that the watch is never perceived as boring, and with all of the things going on, it is sure to draw attention. In summary, the Orient Sun and Moon v3 is an excellent choice for those looking for an elegant and distinctive dress watch. All these features add depth and detail to the dial, making it much more interesting and eye-catching than conventional dress watches. ➤ Strap
