About this deal

The only potential downside that we could see is the size of the holes in the sieve. Some users have reported that clean wood pellets can;

Cat owners who are tired of the hassle of scooping the litter box by hand will be glad to know there’s an alternative option – sifting cat litter boxes. No matter how fancy or simple you decide to go with it, a litter box will be useless if your kitty doesn't know how to use it! How to Teach Your Kitty to Use a Sifting Litter Box Within 20 minutes of us setting up, our test cat had a look, hopped in, left us a present and hopped out again.The problem is, there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. The best litter box for one cat might be the worst for another. The weight sensors that activate the cycle only recognise a weight of 1.36kg and above. If you have a kitten wait until they’re older and heavier before investing.. Automatic litter boxes are the more technologically advanced option. These have motorized and electrical mechanisms that can dump your cat's waste into a separate container (usually via some sort of conveyor belt contraption). You can then simply take the container and dump it out (and hopefully you won't need to troubleshoot the contraption too often). Automatic litter boxes usually only work with certain types of litter—and certain types of felines, since the noise and movement may spook away some kitties…and you definitely don't want to create a situation that discourages your animal from using her litter box!

You can place the sifting tray inside one of the standard trays and cover it with litter, then wait for your cats to use the box before lifting out the sifter to remove the waste. Place the sifter in the empty second box, pour the liter from the first box on top, and repeat. We found that many people do it this way, but the downside is that urine can leak down into the holes and grooves, clogging the sifter and making it harder to clean.

Recommendations

Open air concept, not the best-of-the-best for odor control, holes in sifter can easily become clogged with clumping litter The whole point of choosing a sifting litter box is for the convenience, so make sure the model you choose is actually convenient and easy to use. If you’re going with a traditional litter pan design, make sure there’s an extra bottom pan to place the sifter in so you can pour the clean litter into it. If you’re going with an enclosed litter box, make sure it’s easy to use the sifting feature. You could change your cat’s plastic litter tray several times during their life. A stainless-steel litter tray should last your cat their whole life.

For starters, it’s one of the cheapest litter boxes on our list. In fact, we also tested the Iris Ohyama hooded litter box which was more than double the price but we couldn’t see why. So, the cheaper Catit model gets our recommendation. Compared to the other litter boxes on our list, the PetKit is eye-wateringly expensive. That said, it is very much the Rolls Royce of cat toilets!

For cats that spray and scatter litter, a high-sided litter box is a must. This Van Ness Sifting Cat Litter Pan with Frame fulfills the function of a sifting litter box but it also features high sides. A litter box won’t do you much good if it doesn’t stand up to your cat’s claws and daily scooping. Look for a sifting litter box made from sturdy materials in a size that can comfortably accommodate your cat. If the litter box is too small, your cat may end up breaking it or he’ll avoid using it altogether. Though the litter is easy to keep clean with sifting boxes, you will still need to clean the several trays and other components it might contain. As a general rule, the simpler the system, the easier it is to clean, with one important exception. There are several brands of disposable sifting boxes that have a paper mache construction. You can’t clean these sifters, and they tend to collect waste as you use them, so we recommend avoiding them when possible. Covered Versus Open Sifting Litter Boxes Place a few inches of litter in the first box and allow your cat to use it until cleaning. Place the sifting pan into the second box and pour the soiled litter over it. Remove the sifter to remove the waste and prepare it for your cats. Repeat as needed. We’ve tested all kinds of cat litter to find the best, we’ve also tested litter bins, hidden litter boxes, litter mats, litter freshers and cat litter scoops over the years.
