We were happy to find that the Brooks Ghost 13 provides flexibility in all the right places to match natural foot motions. This allows for smoother foot movement and promotes the natural bend of the foot.

There are three wide flex grooves which span the entire width of the shoe underneath the forefoot which results in a very flexible Ghost 13. I hate the feeling of wearing clown shoes so I had to exchange them for a half size smaller. Overall the fit is much more roomy than previous versions of the Ghost.Making the midsole all one-piece DNA Loft and not having any dual densities or playing around with the crash pads was a huge step in the right direction. DNA Loft is basically Brooks’ softest cushioning to date. It’s basically a blend of EVA foam rubber and air to give you that perfect balance between responsiveness and cushioning. Even though the DNA Loft is Brooks’ softest version of their foam, the Ghost is not unstable or mushy in any way.

Other than that, they are very similar to the previous Brooks Ghost 12. I haven’t tested the previous model so I cannot really compare them. But as far as I have seen their features, the only difference between them that I found was that they added more cushioning to the forefoot. And of course they changed the color scheme. If everything works well with the shoes, what else would you change then? Brooks’ Ghost 13 marketing pitch is “the perfect blend of softness and responsiveness”. I agree with the softness part but not with the responsiveness part. The toe box of the Ghost 13 is spacious and there is plenty of room for your feet to splay. There is also an internal toe stiffener for structure and support in the toe area. These are more all-out easy cruisers and they do that a little bit better than the Ghost does. Again, the Ghost is not going to be providing a wild ride, it’s just a really solid shoe. If you are a big fan of the Ghost line, you probably already know what to expect from it. GaryThe tongue on Both Ghosts is pretty average as far as cushioning goes and nothing has changed here. It’s a detached or non-gusseted tongue meaning it’s not connected in any way to the upper. Again, a lot of companies, including Brooks, are leaning more towards the gusseted tongue. However, the regular tongue seems to have worked fine for the Ghost line and that’s another reason why they didn’t add it to the Brooks Ghost 14. Laces Brooks Ghost 14 – New Flat Laces As the number 13 suggests, there have been multiple versions of this popular running shoe over the years. The Ghost 13 is not a lightweight trainer for sure. At 10.1 oz, it is heavier than its competitors like the Nike Epic React Flyknit 2 (8.7 oz) and the Saucony Ride 13 (9.7 oz). Good grip on Ghost 13 DNA Loft is the newer of the two midsole foams in the Ghost 13 but it feels very similar to BioMogo. I hope that Brooks transitions to their new DNA Flash foam which is lighter and much more responsive. The whole idea of releasing a new version of a shoe is to improve upon the last version. Brooks, in most part, has succeeded with this. The analysis suggests that compared with the Brooks Ghost 12, the 13 has a firmer heel, are more comfortable, have better breathability, has a larger toe-box, and come in slightly lighter.
