About this deal

The next step in the price analysis was to look at the average price you would typically expect to pay for Kettles and as Currys PC World was selected for this review we’ve used them for gathering our information on the average price of Kettles. It has to be said that the Emperial Instant Hot Water Dispenser Kettle has a very distinct, industrial-minimalist appearance, which may be out of place in certain kitchens, although the flip side of this fact is, of course, that it will look perfect in others. Next up after looking at the category and the average prices, we thought it would be good to take a look at the brand, Breville. The specification we have listed from Currys PC World for BREVILLE Hot Cup VKT124 8-cup Hot Water Dispenser is: REFILL WITH EASE: Simply flip open the lid to top up the tank, or for added convenience, remove the tank using the built-in carry handle and fill it up directly from the tap. The dimensions, at L27.2 x W18.5 x 30.6cm, make our hot water dispensers for kitchen a compact addition to your countertop.

If you have trouble understanding this, consider that water is a powerful heat sink. This means it soaks up all that heat produced by the heating element. Without the water, there’s nothing to stop the heating element from going full power and overheating. Filling the unit is done from the top via a lift up opening, which is reassuringly quite large to reduce the chance of spillages. Meanwhile, in front of that is a knob that can be twisted to specify the amount of hot water you want dispensed. In front of that is a chunky emergency stop button, in case you’ve just realized that your cup is too small for the amount of water coming out. That’s about it. Granted, the water tank isn’t the biggest at just 1.7 litres, but for occasional cups it’s fine. Convenient, chilled, filtered water from a tap – both still and sparkling. This is the deluxe option if you don't need a boiling water tap but you do want to free yourself from a bottled water addiction. Look out for Grohe Red if you want boiling water. The Addis Thermo Pot comes in 3.5L and 5L versions, which makes it by far the biggest instant hot water dispenser in our list. It also has a very different appearance than the other instant hot water dispensers on our list, in fact it looks like a rather high-tech urn, which is fair enough because that’s essentially what it is.In terms of appearance, the Cooks Professional Electric Instant Hot Water Dispenser strikes us as having a bit of a 1960s vibe but even if you’re not into the vintage look we think most people will still be happy enough to have it on their counter. Like many others on this list, the Morphy Richards’ 131004 Redefine only boils as much water as you need, saving energy. But that’s where the similarities end. Embedded into the volume control is a handy automatic mode, which you can set to conveniently dispense between 3-600mL at a time. Keep in mind that larger volumes are always manually dispensed. Instant hot water dispensers can also be useful for other standard household tasks such as filling hot-water bottles or getting hot water for cleaning.

Below, we review the best hot water dispensers (and one cup kettles) that offer fast, energy-efficient functionality to a variety of use-cases: 1. Breville HotCup Hot Water Dispenser

During the course of our instant hot water research, which meant drinking copious amounts of freshly-brewed tea to make use of said boiled water, we pinned our final selection around three core areas. Looking for buttons, dials, and fancy displays? Won’t find them here — just a single big, beautiful button on top which responds to a good press as Pavlov’s dogs to a bell. When you’ve got the amount of water you want, simply shut it off. The VonShef heats the water as it’s used, and thus doesn’t waste energy boiling the whole tank. Instant on, instant off, full control, no waste. As a corollary, per-cup dispensers may have a smaller initial draw than the always-on unit, but it will add up to a greater total amount if multiple people are using the device over time.

Secondly, the Breville Brita HotCup hot water dispenser guarantees a true boil of 100° C –a feat which many other units only vaguely promise (most produce near-boiling water of ~95° C). Once again, Breville offers superior energy efficiency by boiling just enough water to fill your cup.

What is a hot water dispenser?

Introducing the Breville HotCup Water Dispenser – with its 1.7litre capacity and 3kW element, this allows the HotCup to rapid boil in a matter of minutes, meaning the waiting time is never too much. The VKT124 dispenser boasts a super energy efficient design which is perfect for those families who are conscious of not wasting electricity, or young professionals who don’t have the time to wait for the kettle to boil. This time, however, you have a manual stop switch to assert full control over the quantity of water dispensed — leave just the right amount for cream and sugar, every time. Or, if you’d rather let the machine handle it, you can dial in your cup size from 9 settings, and the Brita technology toting HotCup will fill only the specified amount and not a drop more. Notwithstanding this, and perhaps rather surprisingly given its headline selling point, the Breville VKT124 only dispenses water in 250 ml servings, which means that if you want to fill up a large mug you will need more than one serving. If you have an “in between” mug, then there is also a manual stop button. On the plus side, however, you’re not going to be waiting long for your hot water as the Breville VKT124 has a 3 kW flat element for fast boil times and easy cleaning.

Not to be confused with the Breville HotCup Hot Water Dispenser above, this Breville HotCup Hot Water Dispenser is also a big hit with consumers. If you’re looking for an affordable but hugely practical hot water dispenser then this appliance is up there with the best of them even if the model above looks rather better. It can supply you with five 250ml cups of hot water without refilling, which is more than adequate for average needs. Another obvious additional benefit with an instant kettle is that they invariably look so much more interesting than a dull-as-ditchwater standard kettle. Even if your last conventional kettle was finished in stainless steel with elegant plastic flourishes, it’s boring. You’ll find an instant kettle is a different beast altogether. I’ve lived with the Breville HotCup for a while now and it’s undoubtedly a handy edition for any kitchen or home office workspace. Admittedly, the servings are a little on the miserly side. For me, that’s one of the weaknesses of this particular model because I tend to use my YumAsia instant hot water kettle for washing up purposes. As with urns in general, the water tank is integrated into the body, which means that you would have to move the whole unit to a sink to fill it. While this is theoretically possible, the smaller of the two sizes holds 3.5 litres of water and the larger holds 5 litres and that would be a lot of weight to carry so filling the tank with a jug or bottle would probably be a better idea. Whether you’re serving yourself during a quiet night at home or an entire party of people, you’ve got to make sure your kettle is up to the task. It’s not enough just to make water hot, either; your dispenser must produce the proper temperature (85°C for tea, 95°C for coffee, 100°C for pasta) as often or as sparingly as needed — and efficiently at that.

Still holding your HotCup water dispenser over the sink, turn it the right way up and allow any water to drain out of the dispensing nozzle. If no water drains out of the nozzle, it may be because the stop button has been accidentally or intentionally pressed. Press the start button to allow water to drain from the nozzle.
