About this deal

I found this duo to be highly unorganized and frankly boring. In the first part of book one there is a section describing the Lords, it was very confusing because she was talking about 3 but there are 4 Lords. Throughout the books the Lords personalities were not differeniated alot making it hard to seperate them or even to get emotionally attached to the character. All of a sudden this strong character falls apart. She is whining and demanding secrets from people that they can't give, yet will not tell any of her secrets or explain herself. She is hooking up with other characters and wonders why the H doesn't want to tell her everything. I can’t resist the way their bloodied hands rip me open, barging through every defense I’d ever put up over the years. They’ve awoken a monster in me. I have no choice but to step fully into my new role.

Here we have a daughter of some dark lord (she doesnt know that yet), who comes to england for her fathers funeral and gets jumped in her room by 4 handsome, crazy attactive men (who are in their 30s and she is fresh out of high school ,18, not that im bothered but kinda kills the vibe for me cuz i wanted mature characters) who are lords of darkness and are ruling the world from underground practically (drugs, arms dealing, assasinations whatever you can imagine honestly idk) and now she has to fill her fathers place. And there is no arguing about it. Somehow driving in England is dangerous because of the narrow roads??? Dude, what? Where? I guess only if you 're in a medieval town but don't generalize that as the whole Britain. This country may be in shambles but the roads are still being kept to perfection. Had the author written driving in England is confusing because everything is on the wrong side, he11, I'm with you all the way. It definitely felt like the beginning of a series rather than a whole book in itself and for the length of the book I really wish there was more going on because it ended up being really repetitive and dragged in the middle. I shall be whomever I need to be to get information from him,” Scarlett answered darkly. “Not that it’s any of your business.” Ok so im roughly halfway through and what I really dislike about her is how impulsive she is. She has slapped Sorin countless times just because he won't tell her the name of a lady she thinks is suppperrrr important. And sure it is. But that doesn't warrant you slapping someone and stomping your foot in anger or shouting at them every time they refuse to answer. Like, why can't she do something more witty or clever or unexpected that somehow jolts the answer out of him? Obviously her way of interrogation is not working, so she should change it up a bit. I would regard her as more smart if she did so. But she just seems like a robot programmed to do the exact same thing each time, which is frustrating. If I were to get too critical about Lady of Shadows, I could find a hundred things that are average and/or bad. Let me start by saying even though I’ve given this 3.5⭐️ the story was still enjoyable and the series has so much potential. Im just hoping it’s up from here. I will be continuing to book 2 I would still consider this semi-required reading for the 19th-20th Century classic horror scholar or devotee. You might like it more than I did, and that would be an a good thing in the end if you find another book you love. One line review: Scarlett wants to be like Aelin but with this personality she can hardly be Chaol. My changing feelings the entire time I read this book : I love it. I hate it. It's great. It's atrocious. The pace is fantastic. It's so slow, nothing is happening. Scarlett is a queen. Scarlett is the most annoying FMC. I never want this to end. Thank God it's over. I need the next one immediately. I don't want to continue this torture.

this book was okay. the smut was my favorite part of it. it’s sad that not many authors include mm relationships into rh books. what i didn’t like - in both of their “missions” fmc was made into a helpless princess in distress waiting for guys to help her. at the end of the book it said that she became this badass lady who terrified everyone but we didn’t see it in the book. And for someone that claims to love her sisters and want to keep them safe, she sure does try to kill Nuri a lot. My only complaint about this excellent novel is that the reason given to us for all the strange happenings in the plot is that an old wizard wanted to get some sort of revenge on fantasy writer Clark Ashton Smith. It's silly, and creates not a hole in the plot, but rather a vast empty void. But it is no spoiler for me to say this, nor did it take away from my enjoyment, because the novel is not about some old fictional curse on a real historic figure in art and literature. It is about the very real struggles with grief, isolation, and alcohol in the author himself, making this more personal and identifiable than any other of Fritz Leiber's works.

Sorin is so far my favourite character. He's everything I love in a love interest, and I can't wait to read more about him. Let’s start with the positives, I liked the world building, the stories of the different realms and how they all ended up sequestered, the fae queens and the different magical lands etc it was all very intriguing. Strangely enough, I was very engaged with certain parts of this novel, how it set itself up as a horror within a horror, a horror writer going through a dark patch that then leads him into a very STRANGE patch where ideas intersect with an almost Lovecraftian (or Clark Ashton Smith-ian) becomes a novel of investigation and eldritch (idea) horror. Leiber was a rare and genuine triple threat. Fantasy, sci-fi and horror. I had not previously read any of his horror writings, but am a big fan of his Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser sword & sorcery series in particular, as well as many of his sci-fi shorts.Listen. Scarlet is one of those characters that is pretty hard to like. I would even compare her to Nesta in some ways. She is very broken and guarded and angry, but once you understand why she is the way she is....you will be able to connect to her. I certainly did. Considering you all are commandeering my apartment to sneak the Crowned Prince into it, it most certainly is my business,” Sorin retorted. Scarlett pursed her lips, crossing her arms. He had a point. Then he asked, his tone a touch softer, “Have I not yet earned your trust?” I thought, though slow, it moved forward in a very natural way. The pacing really gives room for us to feel deeply for the characters which I loved. This duet is definitely one of the best I’ve read this year. The undying loyalty, protectiveness, and honor this group of individuals has was incredible. While they were dark, their work was important and necessary. Overall I would definitely recommend this completely led duet. While I enjoyed this book overall, there are still aspects that I feel we could have ventured into that were left open

I liked Sorin and how level headed he was, I loved Nuri, she seemed like a baddie I wish we got more of her. Cassius was cool and Callan was sweet even though I felt bad for him. Character wise it was solid apart from 1… Overall, I can’t say I liked this book that much. There were some appealing components, such as the literary nods and the clear evidence of Leiber’s extensive knowledge of classic dark fiction and horror, as well having his bibliophilia show through in his characters. As a huge fan of MR James, it was great to see more than a couple of references to him. Similarly, fans of Lovecraft will appreciate the nods to his pivotal work in 20th Century horror and supernatural fiction. I guess my big issue was the fact that some concepts were just too out there for me (and their explanations somewhat tedious), the overall level of moral decadence (not a big draw for me), and the slow unfolding of the plot. Sure enough, the climax is a good payoff (really quite scary), but not enough to elevate this book to a higher level. Especially after how much I enjoyed its sister story, “Conjure Wife" out of Dark Ladies: Conjure Wife/Our Lady of Darkness. It's never a good idea to compare things, but sometimes the comparison is obligatory and that one thing fails to live up to its companion in the end. Such was the case with "Our Lady of Darkness." Creampie and breeding fetish is all over the books (mainly the 2nd), not complaining but I think it severely overshadowed other things. Like, there was more focus on semen being too much or staying inside than the sensation of DP or having four d1kcs in the female MC simultaneously. Call me crazy but in a smut book I care more about the description of sensations, idk I may be weird, share your opinions in the comments! It is not that I do not trust you, Sorin,” Scarlett said after a beat of silence. “It is that I have done some atrocious things, so much worse than allowing a prince to fall in love with me. And I fear… I fear how you will look at me when you hear that story.” Lady of Darkness starts a week after the cliffhanger from Lords of Darkness. We’re in Harlow’s thoughts about her remorse and guilt for what she did. It took a really bad lapse in judgment for her to recognize how she felt about them. She seems like the bad guy here, but I think she was right to be as upset as she was, minus the revenge strategy. Our female MC is -as they often are- a weakling. No, that's not doing her justice. She is a complete wuss. She can't even run 100 meters when we first meet her (but of course the men make her run 5 miles by the end of the second book) and she can't do sit ups or push ups or whatever without throwing up. However, early in the first book she wields, swings and kills someone with an effin' sword which weighs about 8-10 kg if you 've ever lifted one. Furthermore, she is a street artist (but mostly tagger blerh!). A well known street artist too, therefore quite active, and somehow the author wants us to believe she can't run but has never been arrested. Uhm, ma'am, in a post Mayor-Giulliani-era, street artists in New York are being chased, caught and persecuted so no, it doesn't work. She ain't no Banksy. The couple and inner circle go out to the city for dinner and dancing where she gets to know him more If I were to answer this question with a simple yes or no, I would say no. BUT, from the dialogue and the drizzle of spice (at least in one scene) I have a hunch that the books will get more spicy as things progress.
